An Indie Next and LibraryReads Pick!

Rival archaeologists must team up on a secret Aztec expedition, or it could leave their careers—and hearts—in ruins.

Archaeologist Dr. Socorro “Corrie” Mejía has a bone to pick. Literally.

It’s been Corrie’s life goal to lead an expedition deep into the Mexican jungle in search of the long-lost remains of her ancestor, Chimalli, an ancient warrior of the Aztec empire. But when she is invited to join an all-expenses-paid dig to do just that, Corrie is sure it’s too good to be true...and she’s right.

As the world-renowned expert on Chimalli, by rights Corrie should be leading the expedition, not sharing the glory with her disgustingly handsome nemesis. But Dr. Ford Matthews has been finding new ways to best her since they were in grad school. Ford certainly isn’t thrilled either—with his life in shambles, the last thing he needs is a reminder of their rocky past.

But as the dig begins, it becomes clear they’ll need to work together when they realize a thief is lurking around their campsite, forcing the pair to keep their discoveries—and lingering attraction—under wraps. With money-hungry artifact smugglers, the Mexican authorities, and the lies between them closing in, there’s only one way this all ends—explosively.

“Romancing the Stone meets Indiana Jones in this thrilling adventure romance.”—Entertainment Weekly

“A thrilling, page-turning story that will take readers for a wild ride. Raiders of the Lost Heart is as unique as it is compelling—a dash of academic rivals, a pinch of second chance romance, a sprinkle of intrigue, a most badass female lead, and a whole lot of archeological shenanigans in a beautiful Mexican setting! Jo Segura delivered the ultimate enemies-to-lovers adventure romcom!”—Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling author

“Sexy escapist fun and delightful in every way.”—Jenna Levine, USA Today bestselling author of My Roommate is a Vampire

the narrator was so good for this books

I was honestly a little worried that the dual pov was going to get lost with just one female narrator, but it didn’t at all, she made it very clear when she changed povs, and during dialogues who was talking. I loved the story, and even the touch of the author’s note explaining the origin of the story was beautiful I loved it.

Adventure and Romance

Raiders of the Lost Heart is a lot of fun. The romance is really good, the plot was so good, and the setting was very atmospheric. The heroine thought about sex. Her reputation was sexualized, and I love seeing a woman being sexually free. However, she feels one-dimensional and repetitive. The hero needed to be more fleshed out and weak. This book is a debut, and the author has a lot of promise. I cannot wait to read her next book.

Just what I wanted!

Finally a romance with a strong heroine who is still feminine even when she’s being a bad a$$! This story gave me all the things I love a hero in need of redemption, a BA heroine, a bit of history and culture, and combined it with my fascination with archaeology! Perfect! This is definitely a series I will read more in the future!

Great idea, but not fully executed

I loved the premise of Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones, but the story just never sucked me in. I didn’t like the MMC very much (far cry from the adventurous and witty Dr. Jones), and the end was pretty cheesy, even for a rom-com. But this appears to be the author’s first book, and I’d definitely be willing to give her another try. Hoping for a different narrator next time, too.

Adventurous rom-com

I am between a 3 and 4 star. I love the idea of this, especially with the Lara Croft and Indiana Jones vibe. That alone made me want to get this book ASAP. But something about Dr. Mejia and Dr. Matthews wasn't connecting for me. I didn't dislike them but I could have cared less if they developed a relationship. They were both off putting in their own ways. I did want more danger. I enjoyed the descriptions of the locations and how they did adventure out. I would definitely read the next book if this story develops into a series.

Something Different

First novel by author and first archaeology romance novel and it was a good start for me. What I really enjoyed:
-banter between the main characters
-Smart FMC
-takes place in Mexico
-First half was awesome
-second have was good.
-Kinda gave me Lost City Vibes
- kept me guessing who the thief was

Didn’t like:
-Ford was just a jerk sometimes
-Not enough groveling

Overall a good book
