About this listen

A mother-daughter relationship faces a harrowing test in Eric Micha Holmes’s masterfully crafted thriller Rapture Season. When Mia mysteriously disappears from her college campus, her mother Joyce fears the worst — and a warning from Mia’s ex-boyfriend reveals she may have left the country to join a cult. Joyce impulsively launches a cross-continental trip to rescue her, gradually learning more about the seductive cult leader via audio tapes her daughter left behind. Rapture Season is a truly engrossing and hypnotic experience, offering a bracing examination of race, identity, radical ideology, and the resilience of familial bonds.

Directed by Megan Sandberg Zakian.

An excellent story, exceptionally told. I was enraptured from beginning to end. I only wish there were more episodes!

Outstanding performance and production...

...however, the story itself was not good. I was left wondering what the point of the last 2 hours was.

Well Done!

This was incredible! My first time listening to Audible Plus, and it was easy to envision the scenes as the different actors were narrating them. I love reading, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story! Thank you!

Confused

The basic storyline is about a white mother whose adopted biracial daughter is seduced by a 60 year old college professor who entrances her naive vision of improving a damaged earth. The adopted mother, a veterinarian, receives nude photos of her daughter and a letter suggesting that Mya, the daughter, is in the clutches of a charismatic cult leader in the style of the disgraced Jim Jones, who many years ago disappeared with his followers into a jungle in Guyana.
It is clear that the mother will go to any lengths to pluck her daughter from this mysterious camp in Canada. What we have is a mixed up stew of doomsday ideas that leaves you asking, what was the point?

I could not stop listening

this is the kind of story audible is all about. I could read the book which is still perfectly fine. the narration is superb and relays the mood exactly. I can imagine myself being Mom in the next Mia.

Not quite sure where to put this one...

A short, full cast Audible original, with outstanding audio effects, and performances. That said, the story arc gets more than a bit muddy and loses its way on more than one occasion. The conclusion is also less than clear or satisfying to this listener. All that said, the overall tone and feel of this entertaining short story make it worth the credit, with my caveats, noted.

Rich Listening Experience

This was my first time listening to a play and I loved it! The mother's rant with which we are all familiar in opposition to the almost dreamlike exchanges in which few words are spoken felt real. Were they just missing each other or in so deep the truth was in their bones? Left me wanting more.

Loved it!

I loved this story and how it was told. The overlap of mom and Mia’s perspectives was so well done. I rarely get lost in anything audio but the two hours completely disappeared and I did nothing else during that time.
