Cloudan Coustre isn't the driving force to save humanity, the universe, or even the kitten stuck in his neighbor's tree. He isn't a father, brother, spouse, nor significant other to anyone. When it comes right down to it, Cloudan Coustre isn't even alive. What is he then? He is the embodiment of death, this day and age's version of the Grim Reaper. Mr. Coustre is fed up with life as death, but what is a deity in middle management to do to effect change? More importantly, what happens when he figures that out?
Welcome to a snap shot into the life of being death. In this psychopomp form, death decides that being a part of the living suits him. Just long enough to get himself caught up in a murder investigation, then he watches as it all unrolls. Ending in a place he would never have imagined.

Anyway I was given this book free from Audiobook Boom in exchange for an honest review.
Overall this book was very enjoyable although it got a bit confusing around the last two hours of the book when there were several different mythological legends and gods being spoken about and for someone not familiar with the gods, it was kind of hard to remember which god was the god of what, etc.
I didn't like that the story ended on a cliff hanger, I never like it when I know a book is making me wait for a second book to find out how the story ends.
I did find the story well written, fun and the narrator did a good job of making each character sound unique.
It is worth a credit.
Enjoyable even if you don't know Mythology

similar to Neil Gaiman's American God's novel. The novel follows the character of Cloudan who is the Grim Reaper in the form of a Metro sexual modern man who is quite stylish and dresses "just this side of douchey". He is a likeable character even when he is reaping people and has a pretty good sense of humor even if it can be a bit dark. He gets embroiled in a plot by other characters that change everything for him and possibly the world.
The story has a lot of different Gods and being from Mythology of all different cultures and how they come together and how things are still happening in modern times is pretty interesting. The narration by Christian Reinhardt was great and really fit the characters well especially Cloudan. I would definitely recommend the book as it was very entertaining and am a fan of mythology although I wouldn't say it is necessary to be a fan of it but it is a plus.

The reaper is beautiful, a bit of a douche, and just found out he can fall in love. There is so much subtext and quite a bit of mythology interspersed that you need to pay attention. With a good ear, this book takes you on a wonderful. and sometimes very funny, journey into the lives of the grim reaper.
The narration was easily the best part of this listen. The cast of characters is insane and its the narration that brings them to life - the muses, Apollo, you name it, they were all given special personas and characterizations.
The ending made me think that a second book was on deck. I don't see it, as yet, but I certainly hope there is one!
Loved all the mythology!!!

Seriously it's like, ummmm if the old black and white Fredric March movie, Death Takes a Holiday, , was merged with the series "The Almighty Johnsons"! (ooops I may have just dated myself, there... In my defence, the movie was a rerun!)
Yeah, you heard me, Death gets all mixed up with Norse mythology, and if that's not crazy enough, there's a smattering of Greek and Egyptian mythos sprinkled on top. As an added bonus, there's a plot to reverse the effects from Ragnarok! Because, I don't know as much about these things, I would occasionally lose my way in the narrative, but then Cloudan would start talking about clothing or somethin' and I'd laugh (often, right out loud) at the joke, and be right back on track!
John Pirhalla is a fantastic voice performer and he just nailed all the book's varied characters.
I'm pretty sure you'll love this book, especially if you enjoyed movies like Death takes a Holiday, Meet Joe Black, and Heaven Can Wait... only mixed in with a lot of mythology! 😊
A different kind of urban fantasy...
