About this listen

I found my brother's murderer, by becoming his next victim.

The asshat killed me, too. But little does he know - I came back. Again.

Now he's going down. But before I can destroy him, I need to resolve the little issue of me not dying. That's twice now I've cheated death. Something's not right.

Graves doesn't think I'm a reaper, and the ghosts seem to agree with him. They say that I'm different. That I'm more.

All I know is that things are getting real weird in Farrow's Square and dying is hungry work.

Where's a truckload of Hostess cupcakes when a girl needs them?

Contains mature themes.

I can’t wait until my next credit comes in. It’s nice to have a southern charm to a nice kick ass lady reaper read!!! Writing is great and kept me entertained immensely. Voice acting was “chef’s kiss” and the southern accent wasn’t too over the top. It was thick but not too abnormal and thank goodness not abrasive. I can’t listen to some voices but this one was beautiful. If you haven’t figured it out I’m from the south and the phones too thick accents can be a big turn off and in some cases condensing. This was perfect though. Great read!!

I’m in love with cupcakes too!!

Enjoyed this one too! Can’t wait to see where the story goes next. This is a fast paced, snarky UF and you have to just roll with it. If you’re looking for a deep serious read this isn’t it. It’s funny & I really enjoyed the world created.

Another fun ride!

The storyline

I spent a great deal of this book laughing. The story is easy to engage with, and honestly, fun. Even the tension was dispersed and well threaded through the story. Being a Texas girl, I personally hide the drawl to be taken more seriously, I thought the narrator did a great job conveying the southern sass and a substance behind it.

Fun!

i absolutely love this book. my favorite FMC are the witty sarcastic, food obsessed, go with the flow women that tend to drive the MMC in their lives utterly insane and Salem fits that role to a T.
i like to say there are 2 ways to rate a book. on the writing and on the entertainment value it has. i would rate the writing at a 3 but the entertainment value is defiantly a 5 which is why i settled on a 4 star rating.
i was laughing through out the majority of the book. some of the things that come out of Salem's mouth are usually what i like to call inside thoughts. and her Aunt. I'm living for her Aunt. i hope we get to see more of her in the future.
We get a a lot more of the story here and so many more answers but so many more questions. I'm hooked. Obsessed is more like it. i love a good succubus best friend, a grumpy MMC and a Nuts as hell Aunt. i am curious if her aunt is a reaper or not. is it only a male thing? or is it only a male thing because they never thought to check. diving into book 3 to find out now
Overall this was a very pleasant read and i will be continuing with the next book. I read this book via Audiobook and highly recommended listening to it. it really add a level of insanity to Salem

glued the second i started

Reaper Reborn by Kel Carpenter and Meg Anne

I loved the romance, the world building, and the characters. I absolutely recommend it. Hollie Jackson did an outstanding job narrating this story. Hollie Jackson did an amazing job narrating this story.

The mystery:
Where book 1 identified the bad guy, book 2 gives the hows and whys. It was mostly fun, but I feel like the story got stuck in a cycle of Salem getting killed, and coming back with a pithy exclamation, only to be killed again. It’s funny the first few times, but then left me just wanting to get to the end.

Then, when the end comes and the last puzzle piece is set, the authors upended the table with an out of nowhere twist that made all the hows and whys explained here pointless. I liked this best as a duology. The last book was an incoherent mess with an overly complicated mythology for Salem.

The romance:
Maybe because of the almost slapstick mystery, the romance never really cooked for me- the single sex scene was thrown in almost as an afterthought. It might even have worked better minus the F bombs and fading to black.

I tried with this book/theses books. I really did. I wanted to like them, but I can’t. They’re so short and yet I can’t make it through the second book - and I only bought the second because the first doesn’t resolve a thing and structurally, book 1 and 2 should’ve been one book. Why? Because in book 1 Salem goes on and on that she’s back to catch her brother’s killer, so as a reader, I expect this to be resolved at the end of the book unless it’s an overarching theme of the series. Spoiler alert: it’s neither.
In book 1 they find out who the killer is and in book 2 they catch him early on and then ... nothing. Nothing happens. They just keep him in the basement while his accomplice kills several other people. It’s a good thing none of those people had names and families and friends and stuff, because otherwise our two main characters might actually have to start giving a damn. But no. They’d rather wait and watch people get killed. So likeable!

I enjoyed the slow pace in book 1 because I’d just read a very fast paced book, but it’s not slow paced - there just isn’t any actual plot. To be fair, it feels like the authors had a blast writing this. But also that they didn’t put much thought into the plot other than “Salem comes back home to catch her brother’s killer, meets hot guy, finds out she’s a very special supe”. I’m not even sure if this series is supposed to be urban fantasy or paranormal romance. To me, there isn’t enough plot for UF but not enough romance for PR.

Additionally, in book 1, I had a really hard time with Salem and, to a lesser degree, Graves. In book 2, Salem got on my nerves less, but I still don’t like either of them.

The performance was a very good, though. And again, it does feel like the authors enjoyed writing it. I just didn’t enjoy reading it.
