About this listen

I hunt demons.

I don’t work for them.

And I promised my mom one thing before she was murdered: Under no circumstances, would I ever go near the high demons.

But I’ll break that promise over and over again if it helps me avenge her death.

When my only lead turns to ash in the middle of demon territory, I’m suddenly a dead witch walking. Violence in Samael’s club is an automatic death sentence… unless he can use you.

And it turns out that the most powerful demon in the country has a use for little ol’ me.

Demons are being slaughtered. His demons. And as a bounty hunter, it’s up to me to find out who would dare hurt his people.

I’ve got two weeks to find the killer, and if I fail, I’m bonded to Samael. Forever.

Samael’s certain that I’ll be his, but I’m not the kinda girl who risks her freedom for a demon.

I’m the kinda girl who won’t let anyone get in the way of her vengeance— not even the Machiavellian control freak who thinks he can run my life.

The problem? I’ve pissed the wrong people off.

Now I’m the one being hunted, and someone’s coming for me with everything they have.

But I’m never more dangerous than when my back is up against the wall.

And I’m ready to come out swinging.

Phenomenal!

I freaking love this series and I need more books and spin offs in this universe! I constantly want more Danica and Samael, their banter and relationship throughout the whole series makes me want to read all of the books over again and again! The narration is also incredible, the way she can make each character had a distinctly different voice and all done so well. I can't wait for the next book in the spin off series!

Loved Danika

i loved this book. there are still so many questions but that makes sense because its only book 1 of the series.

We have our FMC Danika ( SJM really did a number on the Name Danika. I'm still wounded). She is a bounty hunter for the Mage guild and is trying to find clues to lead her to her mothers killer. A Lead she obtains leads her straight into Samael's tower. There her second lead is killed right in front of her and she has to make a deal with Samael (the leader of the demons earthside). She has to find out who is killing demons around the city, and kill them. She also only has two weeks to get it done.

I loved Samael's and Danika's dynamic. I wouldn't call it enemies to lovers. Danika clearly has a grudge against all demons. She knows one most likely killed her mother and her mother always warned her away. Samael on the other hand tells himself that he marked her to put her in her place and use her but his actions say the opposite. He's clearly taken with her. As the story progresses we see time and time again that he is constantly trying to push her so that she can be strong enough to protect herself.

I love the MCs but i also love the side characters too. Meredith (the Bar owner) seems to be very interesting even though we did not see much of her. I also love all the demons. Vas is the Best guy friend i would want and i really hope Danika and Lilith become great friends.

What i don't get is why her sister is so mad at her. Danika was 14 when her mom separated them. what did she think Danika could do? she was just a child, and three years later when Danika came back to tell her that their mother is dead, Danika was still only 17. Still a Child!!!! I don't think I'm going to like her sister very much. she seems like she's one of those people who blame everyone else around her for things instead of taking responsibility for her own actions.

The story is captivating and cant wait to continue on with the story.

Well written and solid characters

Overarching subject matter isn’t original but it’s well written and engaging. Will be buying the whole series.

Great start

I really enjoyed this new world that the author has created.
The story is told in two POV, Danica and Samael. I’m really a big fan of Samael.
I liked how his character a lot.
Danica is a headstrong character that just needs to figure out some things but I think she will get there soon enough. The world building is great and I enjoyed learning how all the supernaturals plays a role. I love UF, and this one has a good plot and mystery to keep me reading. So I will definitely be picking up the next book.

Phenomenal Debut! Anxiously awaiting the rest.

I have read and listened to countless novels in this genre. There are so many with near zero substance to them or the writing that is flat out bad or the ones you start reading with extreme interest only to be grossly disappointed with some meek heroine and a crashing storyline.
THIS IS NOT THAT!
I came across it while looking for books of interest and now the author has become a "one-click author".
This book has everything I could ask for in a story.
I got my strong heroine who is not a Marvel hero. She has her weaknesses and her strengths. She is relatable in her feelings around her world and enviable in her actions. I got my swoon-worthy bad boy who would do anything for the heroine.
I got my fantastic storytelling and world-building with an adventure that kept me glued to my Kindle and Audible.
This is an epic love story that weaves itself around your senses and ensnares you all the while rooting for the demon who will win the heroine's heart.
There are a total of 5 books in this series with additional books for side characters in the works.
This is a completed series if you're interested in reading it on KU (Kindle Unlimited).
The fifth book which will be released later this month (06/22) will be about Vasago. He is one of the demons in Samael's circle who becomes besties with the heroine - Danica.
It is a slow burn, non-RH, urban fantasy, no MM series.
Within the series as a whole, there is violence, killings, sex, bloody battles, and kidnapping. I hope this helps those of you who look for trigger warnings.
Overall, you'll probably find my reviews of this book everywhere because it has become my go-to in a book slump and I notice details each time I read/listen.
I really liked Amanda Leigh Cobb as Danica. I was not as pleased with her personification of the rest of the characters only because I couldn't discern most of the males from each other. I think this would have been an even better Audible book with dual narration.

What a fun surprise!

4.25 Stars

I found Ms. Stark through another series and decided to try my luck again. So far, so good.

This time we are introduced to a brand new world where paranormal's are out. There are demons, witches, mages, gnomes, fae (both Seelie and Unseelie) along with several other types. Apparently, demons rule, together with the Mage's Council - well, I guess a better way to say it would be that they help keep the peace, along with the human police.

The female MC is a bounty hunter named Danica. Danica is the daughter of a witch, but her powers aren't that strong. She doesn't know who her father is, but she assumes he was a human so in essence she is a "halfling". Anyway, her mother was killed and she recently discovers that what she was told about the crime was not completely the truth and she vows to get to the bottom of the death. To do so, she hatches this crazy plan to steal a "truth- telling" dagger that just happens to belong to the most powerful demon on this side of the world - Samael. Well, she gets away with the crime, but gets caught by him trying to question a couple of demons who just happened to be murdered in front of her right before they can give her any answers. Samael immediately bonds her to him and gives her 2 weeks to find out who is killing these demons or else she will belong to him forever. Let's just say that is pretty good motivation for Danica.

So - that is the premise. What this premise does not convey is how well the characters are developed and how interesting the world Ms. Stark has created is. Danica is definitely an interesting character. She is strong, a bit reckless, but definitely not one to take anything from anyone. That intrigues Samael. He is a VERY powerful demon who has be around centuries and is used to everyone groveling in front of him. Suffice to say that Danica does not.

Yes, this is one of the "angry - alpha type" tropes. But Samael walks a pretty fine line of not being too bad of an a***ole and we get glimpses of him actually caring about Danica's welfare. There are some dual POV's and getting to hear from Samael does a really good job of showing a bit of humanity.

There are also really fun secondary characters. Danica doesn't seem to realize it, but she is running around and seems to be adding people to her inner circle, even though I'm not really sure she knows that.

So- this is the first book and I am definitely intrigued. Can't wait to see what's up next......
