About this listen

Em returns to Austin Valley, but there are many things that don't add up about her homecoming. She's left Rogue behind and is adamant that Dr. Parker must leave the Valley with her. Zack agrees to help her but soon learns she's not telling the whole truth when Rogue comes storming back. With the threesome reunited, they work on a plan to stop the Defect crisis. Their plan places all of them at risk, but Em knows they have no other choice. Hundreds of kids are being injected with poison every day, and Nona, her sister, is one of them. Em Fuller has one mission and will stop at nothing to achieve it: Bring the government of Austin Valley down.

This Book is so not what I expected.

The author writes fantacy, correct? She can make anything happen! Right? Why doesn't she? Things seem to be improving for the Defects but when will they overcome? Will they? There is plenty of suspense in this book. Is there a "Cliffs Note" version that could save a reader from all the drama? suspence? and heart ache?? I could not put this book down, anxious to discover the hidden secrets that will turn the tide for the Defects.

Rebels

Any additional comments?

"Rebels" is a great sequel to "Defects" and a fast read. It was exciting from beginning to that end! Things were to be expected and I found myself waiting for certain things to happen - I did not foresee the general direction the story would take. I have to get book 3.

A great sequel to Defects

Any additional comments?

This sequel had me anxious and anticipatory. The author does an excellent job at building the story and keeping you interested in what happens next to each character, especially Rogue. And, good vs. evil is effectively done here – I can’t stand the Austin Valley leaders. But there is a seriously sad side to this sequel that fuels the continuation of the story and the hope for retribution. The narrator, Elizabeth Klett, continues to do an excellent job with the characters and helps make the story entertaining and easy to listen to. I’m on to Warriors!!

Usually Sequels aren't so Powerful!

What did you love best about Rebels?

There are books you read simply to enjoy the story, and then there are books you read because XYZ are happening, and you need answers because your soul depends on it. Noffke nails the nail biting, page turning (okay, maybe not literally), suspenseful novel in her second volume of The Reverians.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rebels?

Typically I am not a fan of romance in novels, but Noffke's style of writing made the relationships believable and real. I don't want to give too many details, but the emotions she can evoke from readers is a wonderful, in-the-good-way horrible thing to experience.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Em meets with her father. The rest you'll have to experience for yourself.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Is "all the feels" appropriate for a book? If so, all the feels. This book is so well written, I am in line for the third. The performance is amazing, and only adds to the great story line. Many sci-fi novels lose their edge when they try to force relationships onto readers, but Noffke adds this crucial element into her series in an organic, authentic way.

This book was wonderful! Must read!

Absolutely entrancing. One of my all time favorite authors! Could not stop listening. I love to love the characters, mourn them, hate them. I love the way the entire book made me feel and made me keep wanting to hear "what's next?!" Genius!

Sad and Haunting

Elizabeth I left again has done an amazing job of bringing this story to life.
It is haunting and sad. Making the journey with Rage and M exciting but also sad and haunting for me. Sara Noffke you have done a wonderful job bringing alive the emotions that touch my soul.

Brilliant and heart wrenching sequel

A brilliant, heartbreaking sequel to Defects. There is so much to say about this story I really don't know where to start. This audiobook tore my heart out and left it bleeding on the ground, both the writing and the narration portrayed perfectly the emotions felt by the characters, be it fear, sorrow, regret or acceptance of the inevitable. It not only made me cry once, but twice! The fight to overthrow Vider and stop the Defect conversation program continues to feature prominently in the storyline, it is suspenseful and action packed, but for me it is the relationships of the character that made this book standout. The characterization is excellent and the surprising and devastating twist at the end of the book leaves you breathless. As the story progresses you can not help but become even more invested in these characters lives, empathizing and associating with them. I love Nona's intelligence and humour, Ren's sarcasm, Zack's willingness to sacrifice and put his friends needs first, and of course, Em and Rouge's love. Their relationship is not a flash in the pan romance, as in most YA books, but rather it is one based on long term friendship and respect. You feel for them and want then to beat Vider, have a HEA and live out their lives in that little cottage in the woods. The complicated and often dysfunctional family relationships also adds depth to the book, Em's Farther and her sister, Dee, continue to become darker characters, betraying and manipulating at every turn. Rogues abusive farther, Vider, persists in his quest for power and in his need to destroy those who could challenge him, including Em and Rogue. On the other hand there is Tutu, Nona and, to some degree, Ren who are willing to put themselves at risk in order to support/help Em and Rogue. Rebels is a suspenseful and heart wrenching read with a great plot, surprising twists and a very well chosen narrator that is able to bring the characters to life and give them individual personalities. I can not wait for the next in the series. I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
