About this listen

Butch Karp and Marlene Ciampi discover themselves working on two sides of the same case when a set of double homicides rocks downtown Manhattan. A bloody warning scrawled on the wall above a murdered elderly couple sends the Jewish community reeling into a tension-filled confrontation with the city's Arab population. In neighboring Brooklyn, a 16-year-old Arab runaway seeks refuge in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen, where she becomes caught up in the ugly world of prostitution and drugs. After murderously defending herself against a malicious pimp, she escapes into a woman's shelter on the Lower East Side, into the helping hands of Marlene.

As special prosecutor, Butch joins the hunt for the double murderers, finding himself in conflict with his own Jewish heritage, and with the realization that Marlene's case is inextricably linked with his own. As tensions build and fear escalates, New York City becomes a powder-keg of twisted emotions in a case of kill or be killed.

Becoming unbelievable.

I've read all the books in this series upbto this point. they started out GREAT, but now the further the story goes the harder they are to buy as being possible! a stiff neck straight forward DA with a hard line on "PUTYING ASSES IN JAIL" just accepts that his WIFE has a hit man living in there house, illegally ATTACKS men on the street, has her dog attack anyone she feels like, hides evidence in his cases from him, and helps a murderer evade himself and police. Forget that she spends more time and shares more secrets with all the other men in her life leaves at all Hours of the night, and for days at a time whenever she wants to, she puts their daughter's life in danger, and Carp just plays bitch and says ok I love her whatever she does im ok. Doesn't seem at all believable as a real life senerio. She amazingly never gets hurt while Carp is made out to be this super power at work but a complete wimp and idiot at home. I think I'm done with these books.

Really engrossing

I love these books by Tanenbaum. They are so involved. The characters are interesting and the story is always fascinating. The way the characters evolve over time is definitely one of the reasons I love this series.

On the fence

Love the series, hate the switch in narrators and also the fact that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE SAYING NIGGER!

luckily the stories are good

If not for the stories in this series I wouldn't be able to stomach all the pushing politics and race bating. Its constant preaching that every white person is racist.

My favorite so far

The real kicker comes in the very last sentence.
Tannenbaum is ok, but the real genius is Michael Gruber.

"For Honor and Respect"

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The Author had too much background information on ethnic characters, which for me, made the story drag. I wanted a fast pace mystery and got a history lesson.
If not for the reader, who made this story come to life, no his author is not for me.
I listened to the re recorded sample of this book, with another reader, and he is too slow. With this drawn out story, which for me, not other reviewers, seem to need better editing.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

This seemed to play like the old "Key Stone Cops" silent movie scripts. I did like the relationship of our main hero/heroine, but it took so long for me to realize they were the main characters that I found myself saying "just finish" as you like anything J.D. reads. I purchased 2 yrs ago, and listened without re reading the outline, my mistake. The relationship between Lucy and Vietnamese man was stellar.

Which character – as performed by James Daniels – was your favorite?

I love J.D. narration which was the only reason I purchased this author, see Robert Crais series with Elvis Cole= FUN

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

yes as it plays well

Very enjoyable

Would you consider the audio edition of Reckless Endangerment to be better than the print version?

Yes.

What other book might you compare Reckless Endangerment to and why?

I've read most of Tanenbaum's books. Good author, but the stories got very weird in his later books. Lots of terrorist crap.
The early works are very fun.

Worst narration in a Butch Karp Book

Would you listen to Reckless Endangerment again? Why?
Probably not. Narrator speaks so fast it is hard to understand him at times. I prefer other Tanenbaum narrators.

What other book might you compare Reckless Endangerment to and why?
Other Butch Karp / Marlene Ciampi books.

What didn???t you like about James Daniels???s performance?
Talks way, way too fast. Very hard to understand even after slowing down the speed. Talks almost in monotone without inflection that tells the story.

Coming of age

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Recommend? Yes of course. I have found that writers who write series such as the Karp series take a few books to really develop the characters and theme. The first several books Tanenbaum wrote in this series felt to me like he was searching for his characters identity. I think he has found them.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Marlene of course. She is such a wild character. Lucy is a close second.

What aspect of James Daniels’s performance would you have changed?

Pat first I thought what in the world. He seemed to speak to fast and his inflections seemed off but the longer I listened I kind of liked his narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

After the girl was kidnaped and Lucy told her dad what happened. Karp came alive.

Any additional comments?

I hope the next books in this series become available very soon.

Rollercoaster of emotions, edge of the seat story

At first I struggled thru a few chapters but than I was on the edge of my seat.. I missed sleep just to finish and out how a character ended up. Great Writer . Mr Daniels would read fast very fast at times I had to slow the speed. Can't wait to listen to book 11
