About this listen

When the legal system fails to convict an abuser, what do you do?

Meet Assistant District Attorney Lettie Portman, a sex-crimes prosecutor whose past demands justice. When a 14-year-old girl is savagely attacked by her mother's live-in boyfriend, Lettie is called to the hospital. There, she meets a sweet young girl whose only goal is to go to school and come home to a safe environment. But mom's boyfriend makes the girl's world anything but safe. Soon, the abuse gets worse, and Lettie, the prosecutor, goes to the grand jury with the case. Two juries later, the abuser is still loose on the streets.

Lettie is no stranger to abuse. She takes matters into her own hands.

Will Lettie's own past interfere with her prosecution of what should be San Diego's Most Wanted? Will she be able to make peace with her own abuse and move on to become the hard-hitting prosecutor the young girl deserves right now? Is hope on the horizon?

John Ellsworth , author of the Michael Gresham and Thaddeus Murfee legal series has started another new legal series. The protagonist in this series is Lettie Portman. She’s a newly practicing assistant district attorney. A victim of childhood abuse herself she finds herself dealing with issues too close to home. ................
People with an aversion to stories about child abuse, prostitution and trafficking may want to choose a different book. These topics are the heart of this book. The story is well told a unfortunately plausible. The characters are fleshed out and believable. ................ Therese Plummer does an exceptional job narrating. ................This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. ..................If you found this review helpful please indicate so. .................. Thank You.

This book is graphic in parts and may be too much for some sexual assault victims. The storyline is believable and the characters make sense. A good listen if you like crime drama

Great story and reading

I enjoyed this story right up to the last 45 minutes of the listen. The storyline was good. The narrator did a very good job. Her accents were not ridiculous as many narrators are. The struggles of the characters were solid and kept me interested. The struggles of the children were a little difficult to listen to at times but that’s because I love kids and it mad me so angry. Human trafficking is real and all around us. This book is a reminder to “if you see something, say something”. Now, for the negative. Spoiler Alert: When the child was seen tied up in the truck and a gun was pulled on the trucker and NOTHING was done! Sorry, just don’t buy it. And then this lady who has the presence of mind to notice a light out instead of calling the police or FBI instead arms herself with a compound bow and is able to carry it in such a way that no one sees it!? Sorry, it seems as if the author was trying to discover the most unbelievable way for our hero to save the day. It just seemed a little forced to me. Almost as if the author was searching for a way to wrap this thing up.

Overall, I am glad I listened to this book. I would recommend it. Believe me, with over 500 books in my library, there are much worse out there.

So close.

Good story, sad to realize how easy it is for children to end up involved in the trafficking trade.

Eye opening

This was a good book. Kept me interested from the beginning until she continued to prosecute and have coffee after her son went missing? I thought maybe I missed something and it was a flashback? But no. Just didn’t seem plausible.

Good.. but
