About this listen

A woman who has made her way in society without family or fortune, Lena is about to realize her first big success as an artist...until her business partner makes off with her money, leaving her with little more than her hopes - and a dead body in her studio. Now Lena is at the mercy of a strikingly handsome stranger demanding answers she dare not reveal....

Is it her seductive eyes or his suspicion that she’s up to no good that has Clive Somerville shadowing Lena’s every move? Either way, his secret investigation for the Home Office has him determined to uncover Lena’s hidden agenda. But the closer he gets to her, the more he longs to be her protector. Is she a victim of circumstance? Or a dark force in a conspiracy that could destroy everything Clive holds dear? Discovering the truth could have dire consequences - not only for Lena but also for his heart.

Great Story/Terrible Narrator

I really loved this series and was hesitant only due to the narrator. She is good if this was a fairy tale or children's book, but her tone and lack of nuance , or variation in voices makes it a terrible listen.
The story is different because both the H/H have "jobs". This is a little unusual for regency era book. The story starts out very exciting and keep going to the end. The mystery holds the reader's attention .
I would liked to have rated this higher , but the narration is not good. The narrator reads the book, but she makes everyone sem so light and airy. There are 2 murders in the first few chapters, so this tone is just out of place. Both the H/H sound the same, so love scenes are awful and a little confusing.
Great series, but you would be better off reading it, don't waste the money on the audio version.
