About this listen

Now a middle-aged woman facing inevitable old age, Linda relishes reminiscing about her childhood and what people commonly refers to as the good old days. This is especially prevalent when she gets together with her siblings and their now extended families.

On one particular Saturday afternoon’s visit to her mother’s townhouse, which is located on what was once the McDowell’s Farm, Linda is reminded of the events that transpired there when she was just a young girl growing up in the '60s.

Though at one time the farm was profitable and bustling with activity, by the time Linda’s family moved to the neighborhood, McDowell’s farm was overgrown and uncared for by a crotchety, old farmer and his kindhearted wife.

This sets the backdrop for this whimsical and nostalgic tale that takes many unexpected twists and turns. Linda’s strained relationship with her older sister, Karen, does a complete 180 due to the fateful events that occur one fall afternoon in 1967, when they take a shortcut through McDowell’s farm on their way home from school. One wrong decision leads to a chain of events that one would never anticipate and takes the listener through a journey that is both tragic and heartwarming.

Talented Writer

What a well written book! So nice to see a refreshing author that focuses on better times that were so simple
yet very compassionate! This book brought me back to what were good times and takes you through how what the term of “ You can’t judge a book by it’s cover” and you never know what someone has been through until you walk in their shoes.

love this author

I would suggest, however, that you start with the first book in the Sarah Kelling series simply because there are a lot of relatives and it can get confusing.

Lovely

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review .

This was a great book and a good listen during work hours. It fell in between complex and simple. I loved the entire thing. The narrator was great for this book and really suited the content.

Very enjoyable

I chose this listen because it would not be about politics or hate or mean people doing mean things. I wanted simple. This listen was a bit more complex than simple but the story was still very enjoyable.

What starts off as two little girls exploring a forbidden farm, evolves into a warm coming of age story involving a bit of a mystery about another girl, long since gone missing. You know where the story is going before you get there (one of the reasons why I chose the listen), but it was a pleasure to listen to nonetheless.

I liked the narrator as well. This simple but wonderful story was in great hands with this performance. There is no way this book can be a series but there are so many interesting characters and backstories that I would have welcomed staying in this world.

Recycled Hope

This was a wonderful story! It was of how tragedy brings people together and how we go on.The girls are not supposed to be playing in the farmers tree house, but they do.When one falls and gets hurt, they assume many things, but learn more when they finally go see the old man. Kristen Clammer was a wonderful narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Great

The heroine is a young widow with a large and interesting extended family. While there is money in the family, her branch has none of it. Many of the books include sub-plots of her courting by a antiques detective who rents a room in her boarding house and they help each other in their sleuthing.

Great one.

The Kelling clan is up to good with a recycling center scheme to give dignity to down and out seniors by having them go about cleaning up recyclables from the streets and bins and paying them for the work.
