Unrestrained. Unrelenting. And completely undressed!
When her best friend disappears during Mardi Gras, microbiologist Claire Brookes is determined to find her. Her only lead is a bar called Once Bitten - a haven for the dark, melancholy and vampire-obsessed. And while Claire generally prefers science nerds over the Gothy children of New Orleans, something about the bar's tall, dark, and delish bartender makes her mouth water....
Bar owner Rafe Moreau is pretty sure that there's more to Claire than uptightness and frumpy clothes. And as they delve further into the dark, seedy underworld of the Big Easy, Claire and Rafe turn to each other, discovering a sizzling hunger that won't be satisfied.
But will one taste be enough?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I must recuse myself from rating the book because I am the author but I wanted to say how wonderful the reader was. She got the hero's southern accent down really well.Loved the reader!

Scientist Clare is the usual nerd, right down to her glasses and non-sexy sweater, clumsiness, and sexual insecurity. Bar owner Rafe is the usual bad boy, right down to his tattooed body, preference for one night stands, and tortured past. They are brought together by the disappearance of Calre’s friend at Rafe’s goth bar. Rafe doesn’t want to seduce; Rafe wants nothing to do with a missing person investigation or the completely not his type of woman who is bent of investigation. The only thing Rafe is relentless about is trying to dissuade Clare from investigating... and he fails miserably at that from the get go.
When dealing with standard plots and character types, a story needs great dialogue and great narration to stand out. But, this dialogue was also standard and the narrator recited in measured, polite tempo, as if the most important goal was to pronunciate precisely. The narrator could have been reading an instruction manual. Even bumped up to 1.25 speed, I didn’t feel the passion.
While not horrible, this “bad boy” romance was merely sweet and not at all wicked. The dark goth connection existed to further the plot but did not match the tenor of this story at all. I would not have wanted to have wasted a credit on this book. But, since this was borrowed as part of my monthly Audible Escapes subscription, I finished listening to the HEA.
