Publisher's summary

Weak as a kitten.

That's what the old-timers say, anyway. Houston Homicide Detective Quetzel Cazares believes that, too. So when she finds a scrawny, little cat abandoned at a gruesome crime scene, she takes pity on him and adopts him.

That decision just may save her life.

Five stories. Five murders. One tiny, fluffy connection.

Rescue: A Litter of Quetzels Review

I liked "Rescue" although at the beginning I had to start over a few times. I had a hard time following the story. After about a half hour it got better. It was still a little sloppy in places as well as having some gruesome details I could have lived without.

I think A.B. Richards is a pretty creative writer and Andrew Jones did a good job narrating the story. I'd like to hear him in other settings.

Held my attention

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Twists and turns keep you guessing

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

With the supernatural you never know where it can lead.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the little girl said "Are you going to hurt me?" Then the hunter becomes the prey!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it's easier to keep track of the story plus you wanted to know what came next.

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed with the ending. It just kind of left you hanging there.

Entertaining but underwhelming

The best things I can say about Rescue are that it: Moved along briskly, was well-written enough not to be awkward or clunky and the plot offered some rather surprising twists and turns.

On the negative side: Characters were poorly developed cut-outs, story was largely under-told (too short) and disorganized (background lore might be better at the front or peppered throughout, as opposed to tacked onto the end) – and lastly, the elephant in the room as far as I’m concerned, the narrator was just a total mismatch for the story. Why somebody would choose a sort of prim and proper sounding British narrator for a gritty murder plot set in Los Angeles (or Houston?) in which the protagonist is a Hispanic female is beyond me. The narration itself was fine, but I found Mr. Bennett’s performance of the dialogue to be rather awful, which was a major distraction throughout.

Finally, so as not to be too negative, I do thing the author Mr. Richards has a considerable amount of storytelling talent, so I would encourage him to continue writing in this vein, just going a bit farther next time and having more input and/or discretion in choosing an audiobook narrator.

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Blast.

I Am Never Moving to Houston

In addition to not wanting to move to Houston, I would definitely not go into law enforcement there or listen to this story late at night while it is stormy or windy outside. It has several "EEK" & jump worthy scenes.

It took me a bit to wrap my brain around the fact that most of the stories were not related except for having Houston's Detective Quetzel Cazares at the scene, and oh yes, the cat pops up a few times (snicker).

I really, really liked the Monster-O-Pedia at the end of the book. Some of the critters listed were new to me and I liked the brief history & description of all of them.

Truly scary moments, moving, highly entertaining

Would you consider the audio edition of Rescue: A Litter of Quetzels to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narrator was awesome, liked the accent.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! Very moving and emotionally engaging.

Which character – as performed by Andrew Jones – was your favorite?

I liked the cat throughout the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, and I don't normally. I was grossed out, concerned, fully engaged and even did a fist bump or two

This has some disturbing content, but works for the story. Just an FYI, but I fully suggest giving it a full listen, well worth a purchase, in my opinion. I hope to see another book in this series soon.

What did I just listen to?

I couldn't keep with this book until the end. I listened to the story, but it was odd, chilling, and gruesome. I wasn't a fan of this book at all. And the narrator didn't do it any justice either.
