About this listen

Remembering nothing from the day before, crotchety octogenarian Paul Jacobson must become an amateur sleuth to clear himself as a murder suspect when he finds a dead body in the trash chute of a retirement home. As Paul's snooping and short-term memory loss get him in trouble with the local police, his new friends and granddaughter Jennifer help him solve an expanding list of crimes. Paul finds romance as he struggles to escape a murderer intent on a repeat performance.

I enjoy light mysteries--and this looked like a fun listen. It was okay, just not my favorite.

The story had a few situations running through it (like the main character who lost his memory every night and had to daily re-learn everything that has been happening) that became kind of tedious. The narration was good, and this may be a good series for some, but not for me.

Cute--but not my favorite--

There is no other book like this. This story is unique and a fascinating take on Senior sleuthing.

Which scene was your favorite?

When he would wake up every morning and have to begin figuring out who everyone was all over each day.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have listened to it all. It was difficult to put it down. I listened in the car to and from my destinations every day. I couldn't wait to get back to it.

What did you love best about Retirement Homes Are Murder?

This had so many LOL moments.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

No, but it did make me wonder how in the world he could keep digging himself in deeper.

What does Jerry Sciarrio bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He brought the characters to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would love to have, but it did make a great traveling companion. My husband and I both loved it.

Any additional comments?

It made my traveling go so much faster.

This reminded me of the movie 50 first dates but set as a murder mystery instead.

It was an engaging story, that had me cracking up throughout. You can't help but to fall in love with these old people. I hope to have as much fun as they do when I get to be there age.

I got this book because I like Jerry Sciarrio for a narrator. Paul Jacobs forgets things every morning when he wakes he forgets everything that happened the day before. The story was ok but I couldn't get into him not remembering anything. I didn't like the detective either. It's good if your in the mood for something not serious. Jerry Sciarrio does a great job narrating this book. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

I found this story lacking in depth. I never felt connected to the characters and lost interest in the story.

Not for me

He keeps his memory after sex. What?? It was okay until that ridiculous part. Written by a male with an adolescent mind.

Memory from sex???

Listened to this after someone chose it for book club. It’s definitely light reading. Predictable. Good reader. Cheesy humor. Reminiscent of Scooby Doo. Warning: geriatric sex scene a bit much. Thankful it was short.

Cheesy and boring
