Publisher's summary

World-renowned pollster George Barna has the numbers, and they indicate a revolution is already taking place within the Church: one that will impact every believer in America.

Committed, born-again Christians are exiting the established church in massive numbers. Why are they leaving? Where are they going? And what does this mean for the future of the Church? Using years' worth of research data, and adhering to an unwavering biblical perspective, Barna predicts how this revolution will impact the organized church, how Christ's body of believers should react, and how individuals who are considering leaving (or those who have already left) can respond.

For leaders working for positive change in the church, and for believers struggling to find a spiritual community and worship experience that resonates, Revolution is here. Are you ready?

“And it looks like it’s gonna be a homerun!” Why this type of narrating???

I like the book so far but why is it being read by a sportscaster???

Revolutionary!

This book is definitely revolutionary. This book shook me to the core. Many Christian, Churches, and Pastors today play church. Their faith has no real impact on their lives. This book documents the current condition of the church as well as the transformation God is doing in peoples lives of people George Barna calls revolutionary. This book will challenge if not change your thinking about the Church. I highly recommend it.

Someone was paying attention...

It is good to see someone in the mainstream paying attention to the blatantly obvious, and then capturing for presentation to the general population some of the quantifiable elements of what is actually taking place.

This book does an excellent job in expressing specific trigger points as to why there is a mass exodus currently happening in the churches.

Time For Churches To Step Up Their Game!

Barna goes into pretty good detail of the ongoing changes and evolution of the Church as we know it. Of course, things are always changing, but the Church(s) find themselves in a more precarious position than ever before because people around the world, are more educated, technologically advanced and living in a instantaneous world than ever before. So, the Church is not dealing with “your grandparents congregations” any longer where church authority isn't challenged either obliviously or subtlety.

One of the strategies the churches are using more than ever is to expand their reach into 3rd world countries, but that is changing the overall demographics in directions that not everyone is totally comfortable with.

The Church has also brought of the scrutiny and doubts upon itself with a series of scandals ranging from molestation and rapes to outright corruptions. So, people are naturally looking for alternatives and in this day and age, there are more alternatives available than ever before.

Also, the Church has become strangely quiet and absent on so many important “issues of the day”, so they’re missing in action.

Author George Barna offers a few solutions, but admits it’s going to be “an uphill battle” for Church to retain and maintain a serious presence in today’s advanced world of things.

Prescriptive, not descriptive

According to the publisher's summary, "George Barna has the numbers, and they indicate a revolution is already taking place within the Church: one that will impact every believer in America."

I wanted to hear those numbers, Barna's "years worth of research data," that is, what evidence Barna had that a revolution is actually occurring. But the book offers no clue as to this revolution's dimensions or where in this country or the world one can find large numbers of revolutionaries.

I can't blame him or his publisher that I didn't appreciate the subtitle. But I felt like a choir member being preached to. Great ideas -- useful, healthy ideas -- but not what the publisher promised.

Anti-church?

There are some good points but the undelying "don't attend church" keeps popping up. I have a few friends that have been talking like this for years, the common denominator-they are accountable to nobody and they have been wounded by a church. Statistics are not very accurate and almost all of his points were against the church. However, we cannot just completely ignore them, if they are somewhat true, what is the solution, or how do we bring change without just saying, forget about it, lets just start our own little home group. I have been a part of that also. It has the same problems just not so magnified. The redeeming part of this book is challenging people to pursue Christ outside of the walls of the church, it is not solely the churches job to raise us or our children in the Lord.
