About this listen
It starts as a fever.
A debilitating virus emerges in India and quickly burns its way through the densely populated areas of Asia. The victims suffer for days even weeks on end until finally succumbing. Streets are empty and major cities are mere graveyards.
Because of the slow killing nature of the virus, attempts to contain it to one continent seemingly work at first, but human smuggling into infection-free areas cause the virus to break borders globally.
Darren Reynolds is a foot doctor and survival enthusiast. For years he has made it a hobby to collect all things survival, knowledge and goods. Despite the fact that the United States is fortress America, he knows the virus won't stay out forever. When news breaks that the virus is on American soil, he is ready to hunker down. He will do anything to protect his family from what threatens to wipe out mankind.
But Darren soon learns, things aren't what they seem. The threat of man's extinction will not come from the virus. It will come from what rises in the aftermath.

Story
In the wake of the cataclysmic events that reshaped our world in 2020, a sense of relief washed over us all. By late 2023, I think we were ready to just live life again. I know I was. It was a time to make new friends and put the past to rest. Rayne and I hadn’t known each other long, but we were building a solid friendship, nothing more. It was our common interests that sent us on vacation together to my remote cabin. What we didn’t, couldn’t know, was that we were on a collision course with the end of the world as we knew it.

Several years ago, an ARkStorm, a once-in-a-thousand-years flood event caused by a series of intense atmospheric rivers, flooded the Central Valley of California from Sacramento to what was once Los Angeles. The weight of the water was equivalent to the volume generated by the Mississippi River times 22. It challenged an already fragile seismic system consisting of hundreds of active faults.

Like many, Mackenzie Garret complains about the weather. It is the hottest summer anyone can remember. The high temperatures are out of control with no end in sight. Until it all changes. Story
Cal's "honeymoon" didn't start off quite how he'd planned. For starters, he was heading somewhere he didn't actually want to go. And secondly, he was going alone and unmarried. He had no idea that his first visit to New York City would also land him in the middle of a domestic terror attack, forcing him to flee Manhattan in a desperate bid to survive. This was no ordinary terror attack. The Movement, in a misguided attempt to seize political control of the USA, unwittingly invited the destruction of their homeland.

I love this narrator and great story!
Finally a male narrator who doesn't try to sound like a female while reading the female parts!
The narrator really brought the story to life.
Great storyline and loved the humor infused throughout!

I have to say WOW!! Love it.....
I love the authors books. And audiobook versions too.
This is a different take on a virus that decimates the planet. Can’t say much, spoilers. But no zombies. No problem. Don’t always need zombies. Viruses are truly scary enough.
Ammon is one of her best characters. Truly well developed.
I’m hoping there will be another book. Grab this and enjoy!!

I thought this was a zombie book but it's more of an alien came to earth with a virus book. Not really my genre.
