Story
Forget Starbucks - there's an entire world of coffee waiting to be discovered. Around two billion cups of coffee are consumed across the world every day. Second only to crude oil, it’s the world’s largest traded commodity. The origin of coffee is shrouded in legend, and no one knows for sure exactly how it was discovered (although its discovery is largely attributed to a herd of energetic Ethiopian goats in AD 850). It’s little wonder, then, that coffee is so steeped in culture, with a rich history and a complex social and cultural narrative.

Straightforward and opinionated, Short Course in Beer is designed to turn the novice beer lover into an expert imbiber and the casual drinker into an enthusiast. Readers will come to understand the beauty of beer and the sources of its flavor, as well as learn which beers are worth our time and which are not. With tongue in cheek, the author examines beer's historical connections to the Crusades, the Hundred Years' War, and modern-day soccer riots. He talks frankly (and joyfully) about the effects of alcohol on the body and brain, he defends beer from its enemies, and ushers it out of the frat house and into the dining room.

Nice
It’s simple and straightforward and I like how it’s written in a tutorial style. It’s almost like it was written as an essay. But it’s very nice and concise. Might not recommend it for someone who already has a more advanced understanding of coffee.

Educational and Entertaining Coffee Book
Like most people, I love coffee. This book allowed me to understand more about this magnificent gift from nature. I liked it that I learned how coffee originated, as well as how it is grown, harvested, produced and how it reaches our table.
Stella Perry managed to educate me about coffee, while Shannon Lynne entertained me with her perfect narration.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Learn more about the kickstart of your day
Having drunk coffee for a long time and found I knew little about it other than the basics of it being a plant that is harvested and processed long before I ever mess with it. The book breaks down how the coffee bean is made from being planted, harvested, processed with a wet or dry method (had no idea there was a wet method) and all of the things that follow. From there the book delves into some subjects of trade, roasting and really anything you can think of involving coffee. While I am sure this book doesn't cover all things coffee it definitely covers a lot more than I thought I would find interesting, and it was throughout.
The narration by Shannon Lynn is pretty good throughout and is read at a clear and quick pace that keeps the information being presented more entertaining that I think I would have found it by reading. I thought the whole experience was informative and entertaining. Also, it breaks down roasting your own coffee and ideas on the types/locations of the beans you might want to try. It covers everything from grinding, tasting and any sort of prep needed in the coffee making endeavor. A great book for anyone looking to learn about coffee and all the ins and outs of its growing/roasting/preparing and even tasting.

Good starter book
Great for complete beginners to start orienting themselves around the basics, but realized this is better read as a regular book rather than listened to. it read at times as a bulleted list of things to consider. Still would recommend for anyone with mild curiosity or getting started with no background beyond drinking coffee. It's a quick read, so that's a plus.

Good place to start, poor narration
The material provides a good, surface deep review of many aspects of coffee. I would have liked a deeper dive into some areas (growing, biology of the plant/bean, economics of coffee...) . Overall the information provides a decent introduction for those looking for a place to start.
The narration left much to be desired. There were several places through where the narrator made mistakes, and instead of re-recording, just repeated the passage. At points, there also seemed to be significant background noise (sounded like traffic and something mechanical like a washer/dishwasher)
Overall, I would say this is an average book for 2 hours of your time.

A must for any curious coffee lovers
I live coffee. My wife loves coffee. My 13 years old son loves coffee. My 2 year old grandson loves “offee”. I know squat about coffee. Or I should say I “knew” squat about coffee. This eye opening audio book gave me a glimpse into the world of coffee from plant to cup and everything that goes into making a truly good cup of coffee. I may not be going out growing and roasting and grinding my own beans but it is nice knowing what goes into and and being better educated when next I go buy coffee as to some things to start looking for to make a better cup o joe. Really well done. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Who knew there was so much to know.
I had no idea there was so much to know about coffee. How it's grown, harvested, dried, roasted, brewed, purchased etc... are all discussed in this book. Did you know you can roast coffee yourself? How about roasting coffee with your home popcorn popper? I enjoyed the plethora of information in this book. As a coffee lover it was wonderful to hear about the different blends, grinds, and brewing techniques. I had no idea by using RO water I was doing my coffee a disservice. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about the industry, use, and enjoyment of that fabulous beverage coffee. The narrator had a very pleasant voice as well, not like some of those dry nonfiction narrators. I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
