About this listen

Life is full of expectations. For Brady Coldwell, it's always been about the game. Hockey is, and always will be, his life. His family sacrificed everything to get him here, and he won't let them down. He knows what's expected of him.

Natalie Banks is no different. She too knows what it means to have everyone sacrifice for you. She knows about the debt that's owed in the end, and the price you pay for making up your own mind.

But when an innocent mistake lands Brady and Natalie as roommates, neither of them is prepared for the feelings they have, or the consequences of their actions.

How do you negotiate matters of the heart? How do you say no when it simply feels so right?

good read.

Good read. not the best ive ever read but worth the credit spent on it. wish the female lead would grow a spine with her mother though.

Nice read

Good story. I like that the ending did not disappoint. It could have been more to it but not bad.

Cute Hockey rom/com, recommend if FREE

First time reading author, first sport Rom/Com
Book Two in series: both are stand alones.
Humor saved this from being DNF.
Detailed rink activity is actually very good.

Didn't realize I read the second book in the series, on the fence if I'll listen to 1st one since I've had a glimpse of that relationship. Maybe listen while doing housework.

Possible Triggers:
Gaslighting (from both Nat's mom & douchebag on/off boyfriend),
belittling, name calling, and the whole bullshit "boys will be boys" / "sow his oats" forgive him ( from the mom! ) ...no! Cheating, casual sex, fighting, and drinking.
GIRLS SHOULD BE TAUGHT TO BE SELF-SUFFICIENT - Not doormats.

Meet Cute:
Main characters are 22 years old, were strategically paired as roommates by their best friends (Sammy and Matt, from book 1).
Each were under the impression their new roomate was the same gender.....ooops! After the initial shock the FMC Natalie calms down and goes with the flow.

Characters:
Natalie (Nat, Nate) FMC; only child who finally stoodup for herself. had growth some growth, but I felt so bad for her upbringing when the mom's history is revealed. Mom is a bitch. I'd go zero contact.
Mom's only thought was trying to marry her daughter "up" [1%er circle] to improve her standing in society, when she herself chose LOVE over money. Hypocrisy at its finest. The father should have stoodup to his wife and stopped this years ago. Glad he finally told his own daughter to listen to her heart and go out in the world and try different things.

Nat will learn more and experience a full life with Brady and Sammy by herside.

Brady (BJ) MMC; 2nd child of of two boys with a widowed mother making ends meet to support a son's love of hockey.
Star jock man whore sums it up.
The guy does a complete 180° on women / relationships after only a couple days in Natalie's orbit. It's endearing.
The taunting and teasing between the brothers gives Brady a huge hangup that creates a confrontation between Natalie ans himself, they work through it and connect on a friend level that blossoms.

The sex scenes were very tame compared to my normal reading.
I had a couple 'eww' cringe moments.
Those things happen IRL and most sexual positions/situations are given names - so yes, write about them.
It's a safe way for young inexperienced people going to obtain secondhand knowledge outside of porn.
Example, "Clinton" or "Clinton/Monica" referral: newbies should definitely know that's ejaculating on women's clothing and many times the woman is left unsatisfied. Just saying.
I liked how he always had a condom; IMO chasing tail in your 20s is normal...having a condom is RESPONSIBLE! Thank You.

The humor is heartwarming and realistic.
I was a definitely laughing aloud, for the majority of this story.

🤔 Narrators
I would have preferred to only have the male voice do the entire story.
If this didn't have the humor I would have DNF this after chapter 6.

The female voice almost DNF for me.
1. Tonality was also a bit too deep for my liking, this sounded like a mature woman, which made it difficult to connect with character.
2. Audible breathing is irritating. Lines were not fluid.
I don't know if it's her mic, the acoustics, headcold, mouth breather, broken ribs, or no diaphragm control. Each sentence has a literal gasp for air, as if the words/lines were recorded one sentence at a time while she's on the tredmill and edited/merged after-the-fact verses the entire paragraph as a single thought.
3. Rushed delivery (Panting) does no equal naivety. Outside of an argument there was no need for the urgency and panic that came across with this narrator.
4. I didn't feel like the narrator fully invested in the character. the delivery was rushed with almost every line,
I'll most likely pass on anything she's included on in the future.

Book 2 of this series follow Sami’s best friend, Natalie & her journey into adulthood by moving away from home. She expects to find a female as her romance, instead she gets a burly hockey player who is much nicer looking than her ex.

Bradley is a man skank, he will be up for anything and everything, but Natalie is one woman he can’t seem to stay away from.

I liked their story more than the first couple, and honestly I am seriously invested on what happens next.

Cringe and Sweet

Every time Nat says “gross” I’m right there with her. Brady’s growth is a wonder to read. He gave me some serious ick in the beginning but his patience and protectiveness of Natalie made me swoon. I hope this series continues to get better.

It's so good

I've read this book and loved it, so when I saw the audio come out, I scooped it up quick.

Roommates is on the lighter side, not too much angst or drama. There's a lot of humor and a lot of romance and a lot of entertainment. I loved every second

Elizabeth and Eric did a fantastic job with narration. They were the perfect choices.

Good, Lighthearted Fun

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I stayed up till 6 am finishing this book and easily could have finished it in one sitting. I love that it was a lighthearted, low drama romance. I liked that it didn't skirt past the sex but also seemed to have some depth to the story. It can be hard to find a good book with both!

Loved these two

Actually laughed out loud, these two are so cute. I’ve listened to bunches of hockey romances and this is probably my favorite.

Charming

What did you love best about Roommates?

I really enjoyed the back and forth as well as the slow building to true emotions for each other

What was one of the most memorable moments of Roommates?

The punch.

What does Elizabeth Hart and Eric London bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They did a great job at performing. I really felt the characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sometimes your own voice should be loudest.

Any additional comments?

This was a great listen. Loved the characters and the narration.
