About this listen

The star of her school’s running team, Sadako is lively and athletic…until the dizzy spells start. Then she must face the hardest race of her life - the race against time. Based on a true story, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes celebrates the courage that makes one young woman a heroine in Japan.

"[The] story speaks directly to young readers of the tragedy of Sadako's death and, in its simplicity, makes a universal statement for 'peace in the world.” (The Horn Book)

"The story is told tenderly but with neither a morbid nor a sentimental tone: it is direct and touching." (BCCB)

Beautiful!

I used this for a listening comprehension piece for language arts in our homeschool. My 13 year old daughter loved it and so did I! Highly recommend it to anyone.

Childhood favorite

I liked this story as a child. A classmate showed us how to fold paper cranes.

I’m excited to read it with my class in the coming school year.

The best

I like about the book because it talks about like a real girl that lived in Japan Japan learned to run before she can walk

Excellent story and narrator

The narrator did an EXCELLENT job narrating this story. HIGHLY recommend!
It is a great story as well. A great story that can integrate WWII history with, hold a class discussion about the impact of war, and even tie in science/awareness of Luekemia.

For everyone

Perfect for the young reader to give perspective of a historical tragedy in a relatable way. Ultimately everyone should read this at least once in their life.
