About this listen

One child dead. Another missing. The village has seen this before.

On a warm evening in late summer, best friends Raymond and Cara camp out overnight in the garden. By morning, Raymond is dead and Cara is missing.

DI Rita Cannan is called home to the sleepy seaside town of Green-on-the-Sea to investigate Raymond’s murder and try to find Cara - alive. But the case carries eerie echoes of another girl’s death that rocked the close-knit community, decades ago. If there’s a connection, if history is repeating itself, who knows more than they’re letting on? And how far will they go to cover their tracks?

There are only so many lies a small town can hold and when everyone is a suspect, Cannan has nowhere to turn. To discover the truth, she must confront her own past. But can she do so in time to uncover the identity of the murderer and find Cara - before more innocent lives are lost?

Wow...never saw that coming!

The story revolves around the murder of a young boy and his missing friend, who is thought to be dead. Told from the POV of several characters, and flashes between the event, and 5yrs ago. The story starts of slowly and it takes some time but you will be blown away as it develops. The ending is shocking!

Not one of my favorites

I admit that some of the British stories I have heard or read are sometimes difficult to understand due to language differences and terminology. However I found this story at times very confusing and convoluted. Overall not one of favorite books.

horrible people

I've never had a book where every single character is an absolutely horrible person. Murder of a child, child abuse, kidnapping plots, dishonest cops. It's a very dark story, the only upshot is it doesn't go into detail about the abuse. That would have been too much. It's not a bad story if you get past the horribleness of the people. The ending did surprise me more than expected.

Disappointed

Hard to understand the accent too thick. Storyline hard to follow. Would not recommend this book.
