Publisher's summary

Pregnant with her father's child, 19-year-old Courtney is a girl on the run, willing to do anything to make her way on the road. When a car accident leaves her wounded by the side of a desolate highway, she is taken in by an environmentalist doomsday cult led by the enigmatic Saint Ambrose, a charismatic preacher and ex-environmental scientist who gave up everything after claiming to see the face of God. When he meets the seemingly vulnerable Courtney, he is taken by her beauty and her wounded soul.

Now, with the promise of salvation hanging in the balance, Courtney must undergo a series of trials, each more painful and humiliating than the last, her incestuously conceived baby growing in her womb, a strange presence visiting her at night and telling her Ambrose has lost his way and it is she who must overthrow him.

Uau! Not for everyone but fantastic in the genre.

I'm in lack of words, almost.
This is dark, very, very dark. It mix a lot of religious devious cult with a beautiful appealing writing. The narration helps a lot and the subtlety of the accent makes it very realistic. It's like we are in her head. Perfect!
I don't think this could be better if turned into images, the author just paints everything so well.
It's a marvellous insight of some troubled mind that tries to leave a cult. I recommend for those that are curious like me.

A Dark Decent Into A Biblical Nightmare!

Lucas Mangum is just an amazing author and this dark story just concretes his place in the new crop of new writers that are truly shaking up the world of horror fiction.

And an utter joy it was to listen to Melody Muzljakovich’s masterful narration. She seriously put her heart and soul into this performance and became Courtney!

I Just can’t recommend this audible addition or the book enough !

Beautiful and disturbing

The story was well written and the narrator did an amazing job! I love the way the story was told even if it was hard to hear the thing she was going through at times.

Buckle Up and Hold on Tight

I really enjoyed the writing, enjoyed where the story was heading, but didn’t really care for how everything ended. It went deeper and deeper into a strange world that I just couldn’t connect with. I wanted it to be something more, and maybe it was, but I just didn’t quite feel it. That didn’t detract from the super writing that I really enjoyed. This author is on my radar now for sure.

The plot is super crazy and I really enjoyed how it started as it set the bar extremely high. Obviously, you have to be willing to listen to some difficult subjects that will offend many, what doesn’t now? Pious people and those who haven’t listened to horror stories with incest and abuse will be greatly triggered. For legit horror fans, this will be familiar and bypassed, just sit back and enjoy the story. Lots of gore and violence.

I really was connected to Courtney, up until she got caught up with the cult. I guess I just didn’t understand what the point was, unless it was to explain how crazy cults are. She is broken from the start and tries to grasp on to something the keep her above water and has to keep finding something else when the former is taken away.

Melody Muzljakovich did an excellent job with her narration. I really enjoyed her vocice and accent. She really was able to put a voice to each character and think she nailed all of them. Her voice for Courtney really was amazing as you can hear the pain and anguish she is going through. I haven’t heard her before and really look forward to hearing her again.

Amazing

I'm going to split this review in half. I'll review the story and performance. This is my second Lucas Mangum story. I met Lucas on Instagram. He's a hella of nice dude and a great writer. Saint Sadist I loved this story. Lucas kind of gut checks you in the beginning and as soon as you catch your breath he floors the engine and you're gone. We follow Courtney who has some for a lack of details problems at home. Mostly she's pregnant with her dad's baby. It appears her problems actually start when she leaves home. Enter Saint Sadist and a world of pain. I don't want to dive too much in this part of the story cause well it's the story that you came for. 5 Stars, though I felt like he a little more he could have told. Don't get me wrong it's all there. There was just some detail issues I had a problem with, and it's really nothing just my over thinking. It's a fantastic story and read. The indie authors are knocking it out, and the publisher Grindhouse Press was a perfect company to release this title. If you haven't checked that company out do so, and check out Lucas' other books as well. Melody Muzljakovich is a name you want to remember if you're a audiobook listener. After this performance I'm a fan for life. I read this book and was lucky enough the review the audiobook. Melody brings this book to life. I mean Lucas paints the scene in your head already, but her voice brings it to life. It's a best friend in your ear saying come it's not really scary I got you, but it's the same voice that's telling you the scary stuff. I'm already looking forward to hearing her next performance.

A brilliant tour-de-force that packs a punch

If you liked GODS OF THE DARK WEB, you'll dig this. A 3 hour tour-de-force that packs a punch, brilliantly narrated by Melody Muzljakovich. Keep an eye (well, ear, on her, everyone. She's quickly become a favorite narrator of mine.)

Dark, messed up, brutal yet a beautiful and empowering story. I won't forget this one.

Soapy, Slippery...Something To Read

Filth and purity.
These words will mean something to you as you follow along with Courtney's awful narrative. They're appropriate words to have in mind as you read Mangum's Saint Sadist. In a strange sense, there's an overarching theme of filth and purity, the duality of those two things, and the way they reflect one another throughout the whole story.
Courtney's father was a violent and abusive man, until she discovered she could use her burgeoning sexuality as a shield to protect herself from those bouts of cruelty and violence. Becoming a victim of a wholly different sort of abuse, teenage Courtney believes she's taken control of the situation, both protecting herself and preying upon her father's weakness.
Then she gets pregnant.
Reading this, you might think this is the end...but it's only the beginning.
Courtney escapes from her home, hoping to provide a better life for her incestuous offspring by living the life of a harlot.
Few authors would look at what they'd created thus far and decide they haven't gone far enough. Lucas Mangum is one of those few.
The story grows increasingly vile and violent. The voice in Courtney's head and the visions she experiences force us to wonder how much is real and how much is the result of severe psychological damage and depravity visited upon a young girl.
This is an unpleasant, raw, and disgusting masterpiece.
Melody Muzljakovich breathes life into both Courtney's Texas drawl and the hissing whispers and chanting of her inner voice with equal skill. Other characters are similarly well-narrated.

Saint sadist

I had high hopes for this but just could not get into it. Maybe at a later date I will try again. Melody Muzljakovich did a good job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
