Publisher's summary

“Jessica Yellin is the clear honest voice of our generation.” (Amy Schumer)

Be noisy. Natalie Savage grew up hearing these words from her beloved father, who admired Walter Cronkite so much he named the family dog after him. Natalie - who spent her 20s missing out on life’s benchmarks - finally sees her efforts pay off when she’s assigned to cover the White House for her network, ATN. The problem? The position is only temporary, a test to see if she has what it takes. She has always relied on her grit, her principles and her news sense to gain success. But now her competition is a 26-year-old spoiled frat boy who got his big television break by eating raw animal parts on a reality show.

Of course, he’s winning.

Natalie, along with her scrappy production team, has to navigate ratings wars, workplace sexual harassment, and an international political crisis in order to prove herself. But the closer she gets to achieving her dream job, the more she wonders if it is worth all the compromise.

Timely, funny, and smart, this juicy debut is the perfect tonic for listeners contending with today’s politics and the #MeToo movement. Natalie Savage will be sure to join the ranks of our favorite fictional heroines as she figures out that having it all doesn’t mean giving up everything she stands for.

Why does Audible continue to let writers narrate?

Horrible narration. The author/reader literally yells the entire book. I will not be getting any more books where the author reads it.

Fun quick read!

I am huge fan of Jessica Yellin on Instagram. Loved the story. I like how her real life experiences informed the journalistic world she created for Savage.

Fast paced and relevant

Didn't stop until the very end. Engaging and keeps you hooked from the very beginning.
I'm glad Ms Yellin did the performance as well. There were parts that you could tell were more expressive, perhaps from her personal experience.

I couldn't put it down, not even at night!

I love this story, it was fantastic to go home at night and not be able to watch TV because I wanted to listen to more of the story. This book offers unique insight into how network TV, and in particular the news, happens. I first heard of the story listening to Pod Save America, and I got the book so I wouldn't forget, but I didn't read it right away because I was in the middle of a major series. It's the best thing that I've heard since I've been on Audible. It's different, it's current, it's fun and intellectual. ❤️

Enjoyablestory : Politics, TV news, and #metoo

I don’t know whether tv news actually operates as it’s portrayed in the book. Nevertheless this is a well-written well-narrated tale built around a thirty-something news reporter trying to climb the ladder in her network’s DC bureau. As a guy, I find it particularly interesting to see how this woman struggles to be treated fairly in a sexist male-dominated culture. The premise of the story is interesting and relevant to the times we live in. Will there be more Natalie Savage books in the future?.

Entertaining and Thoughtful

Jessica Yellin gives an insider’s view of the cable news “infotainment” crisis, in a fast-paced, funny, incisive novel. Great narrating, too!

Underwhelming at best, annoying at worst

I wanted a fun, light listen. I was disappointed with this one. The story had potential, but it got bogged down in the main character's irritating and unbelievable poor judgment and self absorption. It was impossible to reconcile the character, constantly described as "smart," with the female protagonist who seems totally incapable of finding any moral compass until the predictable end and is jerked around by male characters like she has no spine. She was one dimensional and made the same bad choices over and over. There was too much cliched female victimhood throughout. The women I know in Washington are way stronger, smarter, balanced and capable of knowing basic right from wrong. Although some of the turns of phase in this overly dramatized adventure in self discovery were witty, many were just over the top. It got tedious and annoying. I simply can't recommend it.

Terrible plot. Too preachy.

The characters are so one dimensional that it's hard to card about them. The plot of the missing Flotus is weak.
And towards the end the book turns into a polemic for the Me Too movement.
However Jessica Yellin's performance is workable.
