Publisher's summary

Saved at Sea is the amazing story of Alick, a young man who lives in a lighthouse with his grandfather, who is the lighthouse keeper. During a terrible storm, Alick and his grandfather try to rescue people from a shipwreck.

A baby is thrown into their lifeboat, and turns out to be a pretty two-year-old little girl, who brings a sunbeam to their lives.

Alick's grandfather is shocked into conversion by the drowning of a dear friend. An unexpected event occurs when Alick's father, a sailor presumed to be dead, whom he never met, turns up.

Upon this rock . . . a case for eternity

I would highly recommend this book, as the dedication states, for those that long for the renewal of moral character in our society. Although this book was originally written over 100-years-ago, the search for moral character can only be found in the same place as always . . . in Jesus Christ. The metaphors in this story are many, from the rocky island setting, to being lost at sea, the return of a long lost son, redemption through a babe, and so many more. A truly uplifting story based in the one absolute truth given to man; build your life on the foundation of Jesus Christ and, much like a lighthouse in the worst of storms, you will be able to overcome them all . . . even death.

Claudia Barrett does a great job of annotating and rewording the tale for younger listeners to understand and enjoy and the narration by Adam Gold is incredibly engaging. He does a great job shifting voices from that of an ol' sea salt, to a young child, and every character in between. Not only is this book chock full of redeeming qualities, it is simply a great story; one that has endured the years and will continue through eternity. Well worth the time and I can only hope to hear more of these type of listens in the future

Heartfelt Story

I really enjoyed this classic and moving story, about a man who the lighthouse keeper and his grandson Alick, there is a terrible storm and they see a big ship down the coastline in trouble on the rocks and sinking fast, they finally make it to the foundering ship and a man aboard throws them a bundle, which turns out to be a baby girl,

Okay I don't want to give anymore of the story away, so you are just going to have to get the book and read/listen to it yourself. I am sure you will like it.

The narrator is Adam Gold and he does a fine job of it...I received this audiobook code for free at my request and this is my voluntary review.

'Saved' at Sea Has Several Meanings

Please read the Publisher's Summary for a description of the book. My comments will be very limited so as not to spoil, as this is a very short book.

When I began listening to this book it felt very familiar to the contemporary book/movie ' A Light Between 2 Oceans'. However, Saved at Sea was written decades ago.

Saved at Sea has a lot of similarities but it is definitely its own story as it takes unexpected twists and turns. The latter part of the book has Alick and his grandfather turning over phrase that they have heard. It is 2 lines of a hymn that a gentleman wrote down for Alick, 'On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.' How will this phrase affect the futures of Alick and his grandfather?

If this story becomes part of a collection, it reminds me of one of my favorite childhood series called 'In Grandma's Attic…' by Arleta Richardson. Each story has a moral, usually attached to 'Grandma' doing something foolish as a youth.

I am so glad that this group has decided to rediscover and make available on audio, stories for the whole family. I look forward to listening to more of the collection (please let there be a collection!)

The narration by Adam Gold is brilliant. The choice of Gold is perfect, as most of the characters are men. He is able to differentiate the women and children by using a softer tone. He does not try to sound effeminate, nor does he screech or have other grating habits When performing the opposite sex or young children. I am stingy with my stars and I wish I could give him higher than 5. He is THAT good and I will look for more of his work.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. I was given this book in exchange for my unbiased review. I've written over 1000 reviews; some good, some bad and some just meh... SAVED AT SEA is outstanding.

Simply and beautifully told story

This was a sweet story, simply but beautifully told and well narrated. I enjoyed listening to it. It was not preachy in any way but gave a gospel presentation easily understood by both young and old. I look forward to listening to other offerings by this author.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand!

Here is a nice short uplifting story about the value of building your life on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ and His righteousness alone.

If you like old hymns, you might like this book. If you like the sea and are drawn to the beauty of lighthouses, you might enjoy this audiobook.

The production quality was top notch and the narration was excellent.

This is an encouraging story appropriate for young and old alike.
