About this listen

Love's true test sometimes is a scandal.

Charles knows his affair with August is the most scandalous thing he's ever done. It has the potential to ruin his relationship with the people who matter most to him. Worse, the expiration date he's tacked on their affair has lost its meaning since he's gone and fallen in love with his Sir.

August believes there's a future for him and Charles. He might not be able to see it now, but he's not prepared to let Charles go. Not when Charles has brought back something to his life that he thought he'd lost forever.

When an anonymous person threatens to expose their affair, Charles is given an ultimatum. Will he do the right thing and walk away from a love he never thought he would ever experience again? Or will he choose August and damn the consequences?

Scandal is the final book in the Secrets & Scandal duology. It contains a Sir badly in need of aftercare, scandalous secrets, and a precious baby girl who puts everything back into perspective.

Contains mature themes.

Charles and Auggie and baby makes three

I didn't think I was going to like them as much as I liked Declan and Owen. Hats off to the author for writing such a compelling relationship. I actually think I like them more (just a bit). The ending was a bit over dramatic for me; that guy was such an idiot. However, the epilogue made up for it. Love listening to John Solo. Will be looking into more of Gianni Holmes' books in the future.

Duology review

This is a great book! It's a great duology too. If you haven't read the 3 books before this duology (Taking Care series) , you should, though as long as you read Secrets, this one will make sense. But I highly recommend all 5 books.

I'm so glad we got to know Charles better in these 2 books ❤️. I had hoped since early on in the Taking Care series that Charles wasn't the b@st@rd he was portrayed to be. Long before that series ended, I knew he wasn't, but I still had questions about his behavior with his son when Decklan was a boy. Those questions were answered in this duology.

Since this book (Scandal) was released only a year or so ago, I'm hoping we get to learn more about Oscar next... and maybe Winston?? lol A book about Winston would be great!

I've listened to a lot of books narrated by John Solo. He's at least in my top 3 narrators in any genre, but with these 2 books (and I say this in the BEST possible way) he didn't sound like himself. To me that means growth. In most of the books he's read I can hear him in certain words, pauses, inflections, regardless of which author he's reading or emotion he's infusing into the story or character. In these two books (and to a lesser extent the Taking Care trilogy) I didn't hardly hear John, but only heard August and Charles, Declan, and Oscar. I heard John's distinctiveness in all the other characters, and I loved it! But with August and Charles his portrayal of them was different (and consistent) enough from his usual narration that I'm choosing to say is because he's grown as a voice actor (really hoping he wasn't exhausted or something like that). It was like seeing... hearing a whole new facet to a by now favorite voice. Keep it up John!

There's only two other authors I've fell in love with their books faster than Gianni Holmes. The writing style is exactly what I prefer. Soft, easy, happy, lovely. Even the necessary angst is nothing too harsh, just enough to move the stories along. Thank you for that.

Redemption Arc

I think of all the books with the Moore and Long families, this was my favorite. When we first met Charles in Take Care of You, he was an irresponsible playboy whose son tried to manage him. In Secrets, he had started a relationship with his son's stepson, which they kept a secret from everyone. As the title of this book suggests, that secret comes out as a scandal. But there was so much more to the story. Between Secrets and Scandal, we get to see another side of Charles, and I loved seeing who he really was under the surface. The grief he'd faced, and the way he really lets go with August. How he was willing to give up everything for the chance to be a better dad this time around. It was wonderful to see how much Charles grew throughout the book, and I was so happy that he got his HEA. It was great that John Solo did the narration for this after having done the Taking Care series as well, since it provided a lot of continuity, and I always enjoy his work.

I love this duology! Gianni Holmes and John Solo did not disappoint.
This is such a sweet love story between an unlikely couple. It was worth the wait.
