About this listen

I knew from the first time I saw Marc Kirby that I was screwed.

Big eyes, scruffy face, brown curls - yes, yes, and yes. The man is wicked hot.

He's also my roommate, and since I work nights and he's at class all day - it's like living alone at half the rent.

Then an unexpected night off turns into an unexpected morning in Marc's bed, but it turns out we can't even figure out the screwing. This is not great news for Marc, who's going on a "bangcation" at the end of the summer - a whole month in France that he's planned to spend getting busy with the women of Paris. It's also not great news for me for obvious reasons.

With both of us needing work on our skills, there's only one logical solution to our predicament. Told you I was screwed.

Very enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this book. My stomach hurt from laughing so much. I searched for the narrator, Jessica Almasy, because she has made me laugh in so many other books. I am glad I found this book and will be looking into more books by this author, Kayti McGee.

Funny

This book is so funny. The awkward hilarity of the 2 main characters makes them so real and relatable. It's pretty predictable and even though it's a quick book, it still drags a little at the end. But even with that, it's super funny and made me chuckle nonstop!

Jessica Almasy was the absolute perfect choice for this book. Her awkwardness in reading and kind of high pitched squeaky voice was exactly how the mail character would sound to me and her narration of other characters was spot on as well.

Laugh out loud romance set in Kansas City

At first I wasn't sure because the narrator's voice was a tad annoying, but by the end the voice totally worked for me. One thing I love about Kayti McGee's books, or at least the ones I've read so far, is that they're set in Kansas City, where I live. This book was hilarious. The awkwardness of the main character, I totally feel that way, still, even with past experience I've had with dating and sex, etc. There were a couple of really good lines in the book. One about how guys are so good at ruining your daydreams about them when you see them in person. And then when she talked about makeup being like having a coloring book on your face. However the character liked that, she was an artist. Me, so very NOT artistic, I feel like I'm a kid who can't color in the lines, and that's what it looks like when I put my makeup on. I don't know if I agree with the thoughts about FSoG, but it was a good aspect to add to the story. Lots of laugh out loud bits in this one.

Fun couple.

Madison is hilariously dorky, as is her room mate, Mark. They are adorable together as they master wine tasting and the Karma Sutra.

The book was fun, but I had to push thru and acclimate myself to the reader. Her voice was kinda whiny and high pitched. I’m glad I did, the story had a cute ending.

I've found a new female narrator to love <3

Any additional comments?

I've found a new female narrator to love <3 Jessica Almasy <3 I just finished listening to Screwmates by Kati McGee / Laurelin Paige and loved it. While looking up her other works (aside from youth audiobooks) I found she has narrated R.S. Grey's Scoring Wilder and Alessandra Torre's Black Lies along with several other romance audiobooks I am adding to my wishlist. Quirky, adorkable characters

This was a fun and entertaining little quickie. The quirky, adorkable characters, including the friends, were all pretty relatable as 20-somethings trying to navigate the world of adulting. Almasy was a new narrator to me, and she did a great job with the inflections and expressions. My only complaint is with the production - there were a number of small skips in the audio. I even tried re-downloading the book, but it still happened. They were pretty small skips so they didn't take away from the story, just an annoyance.

Definitely a laugh out loud book!

This was my first book by Kayti McGee and my first time listening to Jessica Almasy and both were a pleasant surprise. This is a hilarious book about two socially awkward roommates trying to master the art of seduction. The characters are completely goofy and relatable and you just can't help but laugh at one disastrous interaction after another. This is a perfect quick light listen when in between highly emotional books! I was nervous about the narration at first, Jessica Almasy was very energetic and talked fast and high pitch but I completely got used to it and it was a perfect voice for the main character. I can't picture the character without thinking of the narrators voice, they suited each other!

Humor + Angst = So Goooooood

Gosh, I loved this book! It was the perfect blend of comedy, angst, nerdy quirkiness, and swoon worthy chemistry. I loved that the female MC was a graphic artist and thought the fanfic plotline was priceless. I kinda wish the comic actually existed - I would totally subscribe!

By the time I finished this story, my face hurt from all the smiling and laughing I did. If you want a good laugh with plenty of content, this story is worth picking up!

Narrator Jessica Almasy really made this listening experience incredible. There were SO many inflections, pauses, and side comments that were paced and placed just right to make the story even more entertaining than if I were just reading it myself. Just brillant.
