Someone to watch over me.
Working for Last Chance Rescue, Cole Mathison has been to hell and back. But being responsible for the death of an innocent man is a hell like no other. Longing for redemption, Cole finds himself embroiled in the mysterious disappearance of Keeley Fairchild’s young children. Rescuing the children is his mission - but falling in love with the widow of the man he inadvertently killed was never in the plans. When Keeley’s life is threatened, Cole’s demons must take a backseat to the most important mission of his life. He might never know the heaven of Keeley’s arms, but he’ll never survive the hell of failing to save her.

I really enjoyed story and narrator here. I figured out quite early on who was responsible for the kidnapping but I enjoyed letting the story play out to confirm my suspicions and to understand the motive. Which leads me to one criticism - the motives for the kidnapping weren't very convincing. It seemed like the villain went to a huge amount of evil-doing for such a weak motive.
The narrator was good, with some good voice differentiation and pacing. I am definitely going to get the other two books on audio.
Really Enjoyable Listen

I don't like a story when the author outlines chapter and verse, over and over again, what is going on in the various characters' heads, especially when it is always the same basic emotions and reactions to the situation. The dialogue and the narrative should inform me, I don't need to be spoon fed - over and over.
The book moves really slowly. Especially the sex scenes. If you like to hear about "his hard length" and her "big mounds" , you will, over and over again the same sex plays out- awesome, perhaps in another book, not in this story because the author is feeding every detail to you it's very ho hum, can-we-move-on.
I originally picked this book because I listened to "Shadow Tag" by Louise Erdrich, read by this reader, and loved her so much I immediately wanted to listen to her reading again. So disappointing, and I am reminded that story is primary. There's no way to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse...
This writer is not for me!
