Felicia Lyons, a stressed-out stay-at-home mom, struggles to sprint ahead of the demands of motherhood while her husband spends long days at the office. Felicia taps, utters mantras, and breathes her way through most situations, but on some days, like when the children won't stop screaming her name or arguing over toy trucks and pretzel sticks, she wonders what it would be like to get in her car and drive away.

Then one evening the telephone rings, and in a split second the harried mother's innocent fantasy becomes a hellish reality. The call pulls her back into a life she'd rather forget. Felicia hasn't been completely honest about her upbringing, and her deception forces her return to the Philadelphia of her childhood, where she must confront the family demons and long-buried secrets she thought she had left behind.

From a phenomenal fresh voice in fiction comes the compelling story of what happens when the dream falls apart. It's the unforgettable tale of love, loss, rediscovery, and the growing pains of marriage.

This novel was skillfully written with its excellent storyline, flashbacks, realism and the ability to have me on the edge of my seat. Oh! How I long to find out what happens next. Thank you!

Sadeqa Johnson is a wonderful storyteller and writer, which is what made Second House from the Corner a great read.

Sadeqa Johnson's attention to well-crafted relatable characters makes her writing shine. I enjoyed listening to this book. Very pleased with the performance of this as an audible selection.

Great Audible selection!

The story starts out slow, but it gets better. Felicia wasn't the sharpest tool in the box. Using her family's dysfunction to excuse her behavior made sense. Overall, it was a beautifully written story that dragged at times. Sadeqa's writing style is smooth and her use of similes are the best I've read in quite some time. If you can continue reading/listening through the slow parts, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. I highly recommend it!

Stick with it!

Well written storyline. The characters were realistic and full of emotion. I enjoy this narrator. However, it would have helped if the narrator was familiar with some of the lingo and pronunciation from the area (North Jersey/ Philly). I'm familiar with it and was annoyed when things were mispronounced. Other than that, I really enjoyed this audio book.

Great Story!

Although I can't live in yesterday's pain, I can't live without it"...Baby Sadeqa wrote the hell out of this book. She spoke to us mothers, highlighted our fears, our love for our little ones, the social norms, and wanting to belong. Through Felicia, she shows how your grass is always greener on your side. How to enjoy your life.

Felicia, a stay-at-home mom of 3 children, while her husband Preston works away at his office. Preston adores Felicia, who he revers as "Foxy". They have the perfect, middle-class life, right? Well, Felicia is hiding something... She has a past that shakes up her life to the core. It sends her back home to Philadelphia, where she must confront it all. The secrets of her past threaten her picture-perfect life and marriage. Sadeqa highlights love, loss, rediscovery, growing pains of marriage, confronting the past, moving on, religion/spirituality, how they "hid" childhood pregnancies in the past, what parents do to protect their children, and putting your trust in others. I'm upset because I wanted more, I need more. What happened to Gran, Felicia and Preston, and the others....ughhhhhh. #Book8of2024 #Bookworm #Whatsnext

Ok, this story have me captivated. If I had one bad thing to say, it would be the non realistic reactions. I do not know if I would react so nonchalantly and ignore someone that could possibly get my home taken away from me. Over all, it was a great story.

Great Read!
