About this listen

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his 30th birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years - except Biff, the Messiah's best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in this divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work, "reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams" ( Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Critic reviews

"Moore...gets style points for his wild imagination as Biff recalls his journey with Jesus...into and out of the clutches of Balthasar, then into a Buddhist monastery in China and finally off to India, where they dabble in the spiritual and erotic aspects of Hinduism. The author gets more serious in his climax, offering a relatively straightforward, heartfelt account of the Passion and Christ's final days that includes an intriguing spin on how the Resurrection might have happened." (Publishers Weekly)
"An instant classic...terrific, funny, and poignant." (Rocky Mountain News)

Perfect for intelligent comedy!

After many laughs in the first 10 minutes, I couldn't believe this book could contain 15 hours of worthwhile listening. Currently at hour 13, I can't believe the journey I have taken with J.F.C. and Biff -- experiencing wonders of the East and loving the bibilical references that have me chuckling every minute - sometimes several times a minute. As a semi-learned bibilcal scholar, I found the author's creativity to be brilliant! For example - did you know how chinese food became tradition on J.C.'s b-day? Or how bunnies became associated with bad J.C. days? Now you will.

I'm very impressed Moore could put so many humorous references for such an epistle! Perfect for a long drive, or a whole weekend of cooking for Easter dinner! Best in a couple long segments rather than several smaller segments!

Loved it!

This book is a good "read." After knowing the real story of Jesus's life from the Bible, this book was an interesting view of His life... the life between what we already know. You have to have an open mind... I found myself laughing out loud to some parts. BTW: this story is not for those wanting the cold hard facts of Jesus's life. That's all I'll say.

Great listen!

I just listened to this book for the second time and still find myself grinning. It's terribly irreverent and silly but just tickled my funny bone!

LAMB

This Book Is Very Funny. I found it very interesting. I would definitely recommend this book for a good laugh. If you have read other Christopher Moore books you will see that this one ties into the others nicely. I really like that about this author and I am looking forward to reading or listening to more of his stories. I have just downloaded the next book that ties in with this one "The Stupidest Angel" I hope it is just as funny. I have read four of his other books and I really enjoyed them as well. Fisher Stevens brings Christopher Moores books to life wonderfully. I really enjoy listening to his voice and the other voices he comes out with for the different caracters. I got lost in my imagination with this book because I enjoyed it so much. One of the nice things about Christopher Moore books is that you don't need to start with any particular book to understand the characters. You can start with anyone and go to the next one with out feeling like you have missed anything. All of his stories are Individual to the main characters. All of the stories are stand-alone stories. Don't be turned off because this is a fictional story about a well known religious figure. This Story is for fun and christopher moore has a fantasic imagination. As a regular person I think many will identify with Biff the main character. This is a story of love, adventure and suspence as well as humor. I highly recommend it to every one.

Sacrelicious!

Where does Lamb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Lamb is one of my favorite books, audio or otherwise, of all time. Fisher Stevens is a terrific narrator, and Christopher Moore is hands down one of the funniest authors I've ever read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, it would make the most sense to say Joshua, since he's the Son of God. But Maggie's pretty amazing, too. And I love Biff. So I equivocate to the three main characters!

What does Fisher Stevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice and the ability he has to sound different without really "doing voices" was terrific. Also, his impression of Raziel is what I will always hear in my mind for that character.

If you could take any character from Lamb out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Biff. I'd love to have dinner with Josh as well, but I want to hug Biff a lot. And ask him questions. And hear more of his sex stories!

Any additional comments?

I'm not religious, but I'm very spiritual, and Lamb means so much to me that I'm planning on getting a Divine Spark tattoo some day!

Not his best work but good.

I really like Moore's books. This one was not his funniest but still pretty good. Because of the topic...I feel like he held back a little.

Lenny Bruce version of the NT

A “cross” of Little Rascals, Bill and Ted’s Adventures, and a Beatles Rockumentary co-written by Pope John Paul and Lenny Bruce. Great story telling.
