Great perspective!
The author shares his past training experience and knowledge in different martial arts along with the pluses and deltas of each.
I wish this book had been available years ago before I started my own martial arts journey. I would have followed a different path.
DJ gives valuable insight into the mindset of how and very important why we should train. A must read for anyone interested in starting any martial arts training.

A Perfect Entry Into Self Defense
This a quick and fun read that covers everything one would want to know before (or after) starting their journey into self protection. If you’re looking for motivation to take a class, courage to get past the initial feeling of intimidation, or just some perspective — this book is for you.
The author, DJ Stephens, is an expert in self protection, martial arts, and has a unique story to tell that explains why he has dedicated his life to serving others. He is the real deal. Dj breaks down his journey and uses his past experience to frame his views on self protection. This approach is insightful and genuine.
The book does not cover self defense techniques, but rather answers common questions and provides key context for practitioners that will resonate with everyone, regardless of their experience level. This book is a nice tool that will help bolster your mindset and the mental aspects to self protection.

A Must Read or Listen
I have been fortunate enough to not only read and listen to DJ's book, but also have him as a mentor during my own path to being a better self-protection instructor. Everything put in this book is how DJ truly is while instructing both students and instructors. This book has answered many of my own questions I have while both teaching and training.
I would highly recommend this book to those thinking of beginning their journey of self-protection training, those preparing for a promotional test in their respective martial art, and most importantly those who are contemplating "why" they should continue training.

What a great listen !
DJ is a man who practices what he preaches - walks the walk.
This book is not only entertaining but great food for thought on taking up some Martial Arts. I like that DJ’s view is holistic and makes a great case for martial arts being about mind , body and spirit and how in life we are best if prepared for the unknowable .
