Publisher's summary

The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.

In Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World, six-time New York Times number-one best-selling author Dr. Phil McGraw abandons traditional thinking and tells you the ugly truth about the users, abusers, and overall "bad guys" we all have in our lives. He also reveals the secrets of how they think and how they get to and exploit you and those you love. You'll gain incredible insight into these negative people, which he refers to as BAITERs (Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless), and you'll gain the tools to protect yourself from their assaults. Dr. Phil gives you the "Evil Eight" identifiers so you can see them coming from a mile away, as well as their "Secret Playbook", which contains the "Nefarious 15" tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially, and professionally. Life Code then focuses on you and your playbook, which contains the "Sweet 16" tactics for winning in the real world.

Edgy, controversial and sometimes irreverent, Dr. Phil again abandons convention to prepare you to claim what you deserve and claim it now. You take flying lessons to learn to fly, swimming lessons to learn to swim, and singing lessons to learn to sing. So, why not take winning lessons to learn to win?

Wow---Life Changing

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend to a friend, and have, because if you are or have been prey for a baitor, it gives words and information on how to stand up for yourself and be heard. I also appreciated the verbage for a conversation with a friend who is talking about you. Wow-Soooo Useful!!!!!

What other book might you compare Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to and why?

I would also recommend "Shark and a Goldfish," by Jon Gordon

What does Phil McGraw bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Dr. Phil speaking brings his seriousness to each situation. I enjoyed it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book made me laugh and cry about so many years I have been willing to listen to lies from a baitor thinking it was my fault and there was something wrong with me. I love that I have a voice and will be more cautious from now on in future relationships.

Any additional comments?

I love it, and will listen/read and relisten/reread this book many, many times. I want to get this so that my life will be different. Thank you Dr. Phil...I am truly grateful.

Not as good as I expected

I am a huge Dr. Phil fan, but the first half of the book just seemed to bash terrible people and describe what terrible people do over and over again. I didn’t find anything too helpful or interesting about that part of the book. About halfway through he started breaking down getting to know yourself and how to deal with negotiations, communication, etc. This is what I had expected for the whole book...and there were many more tidbits that were interesting. I’m just glad it took a turn for the better in the second half!

Good common sense

Dr. Phil is a very smart person who has a straight forward way of explaining things that people who lack common sense don't know.

I apologize if this offends anybody. Most of what Dr. Phil set is what the average person is afraid to say. Standing up for yourself. Cutting people out of your life that are sick both mentally spiritually and morally. Too many people are afraid of hurting other people's feelings and wind up wasting their life doing things they don't want to because they're afraid to offend or be unpopular.

Dr. Phil give you permission to take care of yourself put yourself first and enjoy your life. There are too many people taking from others and believing people dry instead of doing for themselves.

Dr. Phils insight is necessary for people to enjoy their life and not support other people lives and self esteem.

Really wanted to love this

I think the content is very good. Sound foundations of life but I really think Dr. Phil would have been better served by having another reader.

Winners and Losers

Would you try another book from Phil McGraw and/or Phil McGraw?

Probably not. I don't accept his premise that, just because someone might be trying to engage me in a competitive game, that I have no choice but to join in and try to beat them at their own game.

Really?

He is too much in love with the idea of winners and losers, and that to be a winner, you have to make someone else a loser. Yes, American society is dominated by that paradigm, so he says rightly, "That's just how the world is." But the only reason that is how it is, is because that's how people choose to think. In my opinion, it's a sick paradigm that only benefits a very few people, and may be turning us into a nation of extremists. It may "work" for a few people, but not society as a whole.

Through the insights he unwittingly provides, I realize that Dr. Phil is trying to engage us all in HIS game, the game he knows how to win. You don't really think someone who thinks this way is just trying to help us out of the goodness of his heart, do you? I can't help but wonder if there is more than just book royalties at stake here.

No. Maybe in McGraw's game, you would have to attack someone to prevent them from taking something from us that is not theirs to take, but there are other games. There are other paradigms that serve as road maps to success and fulfillment, and we DO have a choice, just as we can choose whether to play football, or run a marathon.

It does, however, help to learn to recognize when someone is trying to con you, so I do at least appreciate some of the information provided in the book.
