Publisher's summary

When Shelby's daughter, Leslie, fails to show up at his cabin for her long-planned visit to northern Michigan, he's concerned, but makes excuses.

When her car is found abandoned by the side of a tree-lined highway, he fears the worst.

When her cellphone appears on his front porch, he knows something terrible has happened and that he is to blame.

Enlisting the help of the new county sheriff, Shelby launches a search for Leslie, all the while dealing with a prostitute in fear for her life, a sexy writer interested in writing his life story, and the long-banished ghosts of his own past.

Familiar enemies resurface in this blazing new thriller that finds Shelby racing against time to save the most important person in his life: his own child.

Great addition to the series

First off, the Serenity series is one of my favorites. I just love the sarcastic whit between Shelby and Mac, the story line is gripping and entertaining, and the narrator does such a great job with the design of the character voices. Hart and Holland are such a great team in creating these audio books. I thoroughly enjoyed Engulfed and thought it was a great addition to the series. That being said, in my opinion I felt it was lacking a little of the action and pizzaz of the other books. The Shelby character seems to be losing some of his cool vibe, whit and humor as the stories progress. He seems older and more tired. Of course if you go through all that he's been through I guess that is expected. Plus he was worried about and focused on his daughter so much in this book that I felt he didn't connect and respond to the other characters like he did in the previous books. I hope as the writer continues in this series that he doesn't let Shelby loose his edge that I so enjoyed and admired in the beginning. Bring back the old Shelby and let him kick some more butt. I can't wait to see what adventure and mystery the next book brings. I did like how this book ended. It went out with a bang!!!

This Time It's Personal

When his daughter disappears off the highway on her way to visit him for the weekend, Shelby and Mac swing into action battling a pair of old enemies in an effort to find and rescue her. A lot of things go boom and a there's a whole lot of gun play and fisticuffs, which is just what fans of the series have come to expect, but this one's personal which makes the climactic closing particularly satisfying.
A great read if you enjoy action-adventure stories with an unapologetic tough guy hero and an absolute must read if you're a fan of the series.

The story is great. You don't have to listen to any of the prior audio books to know what's going on..

5th in the series

A great way to end the series...Many of the story lines from the previous 4 books get linked for the finale. Still a stand alone novel but helps if you had readed/heard the prior books.

Antics & Adventure

Shelby’s Daughter Leslie was coming to his cabin, a time to spread her wings. With the grandmother watching the baby. Concerned when she doesn’t show up and then an abandoned car is spotted. With the help of a friend, he is met with enemies past and present on his search. The antics, the adventure is at its best in this latest book.
Received the ARC audio with the narration by Theo Holland greatly added to this story and brought it alive for the readers.
Given my honest opinion and voluntary review .

More adventurous escapades...

This is the fifth novella in the Shelby Alexander series and the adventure, action, and chaos are still unremitting. Each installment has an engaging storyline and this one is no exception. In this story, Shelby’s daughter goes missing and Shelby, with the help of his good friend, Mack, will leave no stone unturned to find her and bring her home to safety. Each story further fleshes out the lives and relationships of the main characters and each story introduces new and interesting characters. Shelby must face villains, both old and new, and keep his family and friends safe from harm. Each story resolves the main conflict but has a few well-designed hooks to compel the reader to reach for the next book. At the end of each book, you never feel like you were left hanging but you are definitely motivated to grab the next book for more of this addictive escapism. Overall, a captivating series that is carefully crafted to treat the armchair adventurer to a tantalizing adrenalin-fueled thrill-ride.

I chose to read along while listening to the audio version of this story and would like to, once again, commend the narrator, Theo Holland, for another wonderful performance. Both author and narrator keep raising the bar with each installment.

While I did purchase a copy of this book, the author gifted me with a code for the audio version and the above is my honest and unbiased review.

This is a great series.

I have both audible and e-books in this series and have read or listened to them more than once. That is what defines a good story to me.

A great ending

A great way to end the series... but without reading the prof books, the action in this one won’t make much sense.

Shelby's daughter is in danger... again.

This is my less favourite book in the series. It felt... rushed, unfocused. The antagonist is way over the top, there are a lot of bits of Shelby's past that go nowhere, and the whole thing with Carly's friend? It looks like the only reason she was around was to be an excuse to bring one of those fragments of Shelby's past to the story. And I really don't think Shelby would stop to check on someone when his daughter is in real danger, not even if it's Carly who is asking him to do it.

The story is still interesting, it's just that I liked the others better :P
