About this listen

A timely investigation into the forces that are driving innovation in the four core areas of human experience: birth, food, sex, and death

In Sex Robots and Vegan Meat, award-winning journalist and documentary maker Jenny Kleeman takes us on a journey into the world of the people who are changing what it means to be human. Focusing on the central pillars of the human experience - birth, food, sex, and death - Kleeman examines the people who are driving some truly amazing, and perhaps worrying, innovations. We are on the brink of seismic changes in the ways we live and die, from babies grown in artificial wombs to lab-produced meat; from sex robots able to hold polite conversation, and otherwise, to being able to choose to end our days with the perfect, painless, automated death. Our journey from cradle to grave is developing in ways which involve more and more technology and less and less human interaction. Might these advances in technology serve to rob us of our humanity?

In this book, Kleeman takes a profound look at what the future might have in store and asks some provocative questions along the way. Kleeman places these scientists front and center and asks what is driving and motivating them. Are they entrepreneurs in it for the greater good of human advancement, or might there be more sinister - i.e. monetary - motivations in play?

Kleeman is a skilled and subtle interrogator and travels with the listener on a fascinating exploration of the changes afoot and their implications for who we are as a society - and as human beings. It’s an immersive, eye-opening, and hugely entertaining journey into a world of extraordinary visionaries on the front line of a social revolution.

Extremely though inducing. I really enjoyed the whole read. The author has a youtube interview with Joe Rogan that I liked which is where I first heard about her and the story. It's strange because some of the concepts and ideas seem dystopian or fictional but they're not. I really liked it.

Great bit of journalism about interesting topics

The author painted a perfect picture of how a Brave New World is just around the corner.

I heard an interview with the author on the Joe Rogan Experience and immediately bought it as the subject was so interesting and she was as well. The book was great and posed some thought provoking questions about what happens or may happen when inventions created with good intentions are used for other purposes or only available to the elite. Great read/listen!

Fantastic Listen!

The author did a lot of research to give us a better understanding of what the future will look like for synthetic meat and synthetic sex. Enjoyable and informative, however, the consequences may leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. Then again, maybe with a little luck, we'll end up with something that advances humanity. I'll try to stay optimistic.

Super interesting stuff that is going on, right now, all around us. A future that is coming presumably whether we want it, like it, or even acknowledge it, that will change the face of the planet.
Being read by the author she did a great job and is easy to listen to. The book is presented well, and leaves most of the opinion, and political ideals at the door to allow the listener to form their own opinions.
Definitely worth the time.

Very interesting and eye opening

Snagged this book after hearing Jenny on JRE! I loved the book - I specifically enjoyed it because she didn’t come across as having an agenda or biased. Jenny seems very open to ideas but also realistic! I have already recommended this book to several friends

Excellent!!

this book had me do a lot of self-reflection especially about death I was able to share quite a lot of my thoughts to my friends about issues that this book brings to light that nobody really talk about and they was quite surprised because mainstream media just have us looking one direction and not looking what I believe what really matters to living our lives

the future

The author paints the idea of sex robots in a negative light because she is upset with the idea of men having sexual freedom. She makes no attempt to empathize with those who would benefit and portrays the inventors as if they are the next wave of billionaire boogie men.

Myopic author
