When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

Story
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.

A great start
Which character – as performed by Rob Saladino – was your favorite?
Kage
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes
Any additional comments?
I rarely read books in this genre but I really enjoyed the quick pace and snappy dialogue. The story left me wanting to know more about what will happen to the characters, and understand the things about magic that the characters themselves do not yet understand. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

High School has NO course to learn their knowledge
Can't wait till the second installment. The book was fun and the characters a hoot. More of a novella than a book. I enjoyed the family involved and the story.

Good start to a YA fantasy series
The story starts with some background information about immortals. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook and was disappointed when it ended. I'm looking forward to the next book in this intriguing series.
The narrator did a good job bringing the story to life. I was a bit lost at first but once everything was explained it made more sense.
Avery finds out her family is not as ordinary as she has always believed. She is coming into her powers and a lot is changing in a short period of time.
There is danger lurking around her and she is having vivid nightmares. Her family does not know what to expect. Avery has a boyfriend but she is very attracted to kage.
It is a good listen even though it is a bit short and a lot goes on in a short period of time. It is not a complete story. The last chapter opens up many questions and worries about what will happen to Avery. She is in serious danger.

Narration detracts from the story
I liked the premise behind this book. One day after a crazy storm at her high school, Avery discovers she has magical powers because she is an immortal. A typical "gain your magic when you come of age" book, but it's a YA novel, so it's easy to overlook some of the cheesy cliches. Almost right off the bat, we find out all of the secrets and lies her family has been keeping from her regarding her lineage. We also discover that she is special in a number of ways. As an adult, it was hard not to hear the angry/pouty teenager moments without rolling my eyes. I wanted her to snap out of it and just go with things instead of fighting everyone on everything. I think the real problem with this audio book was the narration. I have no idea why the author chose to have a male narrate a book told from the perspective of a teenage girl. It was really distracting. It wasn't necessarily that he was a bad narrator...I might like to hear him on other books, but it just wasn't right for this one. Maybe I will try the next book in this series in print to see if I like it any better. This just wasn't a win for me.

Loved this Paranormal World
What did you love best about Shaded: Colored Lies?
The book is quite the original parnormal story with a soulmate aspect to it. It did a good job at building the world and the type of paranormal (I don't want to say creatures cause they are people but they aren't people cause they have powers right?) beings that were developed but then after you found out more it was just over.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I disliked the different voices by the narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book had me intrigued start to finish.
Any additional comments?
This story had real promise and I would love for it to go on, it was just too short for the picture it painted. The epilogue hinted to way more of the future of the story and the world that we will be seeing so I hope it's done soon and delivered.

A quick Young Adult read..
Any additional comments?
The storyline is centered around Avery, a 17 year old girl, and Kage, a new friend.
Kage and Avery have an immediate attraction to each other.
The book had a focus on family, relationships, and the descriptions through out the story were colorful.
Rob Saladino did ok with the narration.

An Excellent Short YA Story
For most kids who discover on their own or are finally told about a long hidden family secret, It’s usually something that revolves around a criminal act by a family member that may or may not have led to prison. It might also be about adoption or infidelity leading to a previously unknown half brother or half sister. In “Shaded: Colored Lies,” the main character, a somewhat petulant teen girl named Avery, discovers something no one could have possibly imagined about her family and herself. From there, the story takes off. “Shaded: Colored Lies” is a novella and volume one of what I assume will be a successful, ongoing YA series. My only complaint is that it’s so good, yet so short, I wish there was an omnibus edition I could get hold of to finish the story. I hate having to wait for book after book to come out in order to finish a story.
Rob Saladino is an excellent narrator and a great choice for this story. He just adds more value to an already good story. Although I’m not bothered by it, I was surprised that the author, RE Danielle, chose a male narrator for a story with a female protagonist. Although I am an adult and probably not the target audience for this book, I think any adult will find it enjoyable.

Pleasantly Surprised
I rarely read YA books but this one grabbed me from the beginniing. kage was my favorite and he ws developed well. Some of the thing could have been more developed. when I think about a YA book I don't imagine the developement that was included in this story. imagine a strange storm coving your high school and your whole life is changed and turned upside down. I even liked the narrator. I may read the next book in this series

Had trouble with this narrator
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I had a little trouble getting in to this book. I would classify it as YA. I think I would have liked it better if the narrator hadn't made Avery sound like she was 10 years old. Because of that I couldn't see in my mind the romance between Avery and Kage. I saw them as little kids. I also found it hard to see the males in this book as tough and rugged, because of the voice of the narrator. The authors did a great job with the story. There is a great deal of suspense and intrigue and a little bit of romance. The ending left me up in the air and I am looking forward to the next book. The authors certainly grabbed my attention and I couldn't stop listening until it was complete. However, the story wasn't complete. I guess I will just have to wait for the next in the series. Although I may change my mind if the narrator is the same. Maybe I will have to get it in book format.

Suited for YA Listeners
This listen was geared more towards high schoolers in my opinion. My 14 year old would probably like it. The narrator did a good job. It is a promising start to a cute YA series.
I wouldn't place this in the contemporary adult romance section.
