About this listen

The gods are dying. But for one man, death is only the beginning.

Murdered as a ritual sacrifice, amateur thief and professional charmer Dustin Graves mysteriously survives, finding himself gifted with strange, dark magic. Then more dead bodies turn up. Some are human, but one is a god of the old world, slain at his own doorstep.

Mortal or divine, the bloodshed must end, and Dust is the mage for the job. But first he must contend with a succubus, a talking sword, a spider queen, a goddess of magic, and eldritch abominations from beyond the stars. No big deal...right?

If you like snarky heroes, snappy dialogue, and a bit of grit and gore, you'll love the first standalone audiobook in Nazri Noor's series of urban fantasy novels. Explore the Darkling Mage universe and discover a taste of Shadow Magic today.

more please

what Harry Dresden might have been like as a young man in different circumstances. I enjoyed the narration and look forward to more.

Great story, great characters, interesting world.

I don't know if my expectations were just low going in but man what a great book this was. Story starts off at a fast pace. Love the main guy (though a bit frustrating how dim witted he can be at times). And of course Luke Daniels kills it without fail. You can't beat him.

Very well done

Great start to a new series. Hesitated when I first saw it but was very much proved wrong. The MC is very well done and proves to be someone capable of carrying the story forward. Luke Daniels does a fantastic job of bringing this world to life. I received a free copy of this audio in exchange for an unbiased review.

Luke Davis does it again

Luke always brings good stories to life.

I think my greatest disappointment with the story is that there was only one book of the series on audible.

There is a small section of muddled storytelling when the character whiplashes us with distrust followed by trust of one group and then another. I suspect these changes of heart were justified in the author’s head, but was a little difficult to get through. Otherwise, the story was fun and enjoyable. The villain’s motives become clear, but feel incomprehensible when you first meet the perpetrator.

Magical Beginning

This story kept my attention from start to finish. I enjoyed the magical elements as well as the mythical God's placed through out. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the story and characters to life. I look forward to more in this series

Great Story

I got this book because it was read by Luke Daniels. I had never heard of Nazri Noor but he wrote a great story and I will be reading the whole series. Can't wait to see how the Story unfolds... Thank you for a great book !

A fun book, just needs a little more polish

Enjoyable, but it needed more setup description to link important scenes. I've bought book 2 to see how it all develops.

Magical and funny

It's not often that you find the perfect blend of a new, complex magic system AND a big healthy dose of humor in one book. And it's not often you find a story where the narrator had been murdered but somehow not only isn't dead but has gained new, unexpected powers. Shadow Magic manages to do all of these things with an engaging story that never goes where you expect, a big plus in my view.

The pairing of the main character, Dustin Graves, with the estimable narrator, Luke Daniels, is inspired. They go together like hot chocolate and whipped cream and are just as yummy.

good light fun

as always Luke Daniels nailed the performance. the story was good, although extremely short, and everything was spoon-fed to you in chunks, I realize that this was the first book and the author had to get a lot of stuff out there fast
it was still worth the credit and I assume since this is just the first of the series it will get better as it goes along.
I will be looking forward to the next one.
