About this listen
In this factual account written with General Carl Steiner (Ret.), a commander who held responsibility for all U.S. Special Operations forces across all service lines, we get special insight into a largely secretive community whose members do not talk about their work. We hear about it only afterwards: the Achille Lauro hijacking, the "takedown" of Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, the efforts to find Aidid in Somalia. These are men sent in to do the impossible - and often, they achieve it.

Story
A terrorist bomb explodes during a South Korean celebration of the anniversary of the election of its first president. Alarms are raised in Washington. No one is claiming responsibility. The first suspect is North Korea. Could it be making a power play against South Korea and unification? If so, how will the U.S. respond? Paul Hood, Director of the Op-Center, must answer these questions. The Op-Center, a largely autonomous new agency which takes on the government's toughest security problems, is only six months old, and has never been given a foreign crisis until now.

Shadow Warriors
My Kingdom for an editor!
This was one of those very rare occasions where I wished I had bought the abridged version. The work is loaded with facts and information, as interesting as they may be, that bear little to no revelance to the topic of Special Forces. Sadly at times it seems that the book filters the role of the SF through the life and career of General Steiner, rather than General Steiner's life filtered through the role of the SF. Would a better title have been 'Shadow Warrior"?
Beside that, the book offers some thrilling moments and Jonathan Marosz delivers another great narration.

Great book.
As usual Clancy has written a great book. The problem with it is that this is more an autobiography of Carl Stiner than a history of Special Forces.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the autobiography, but that's not what I bought the book for.
The other problem is Jonathan Marosz. He has an easy voice to listen to, but his pronunciation of military terms (USAREUR), place names (Huachuca is pronounced wah-chuca not haw-chuca) and common words (ruck sack not ruke sack) is annoying as heck.
I would expect a professional to do some research and learn to pronounce the military terms and place names. I would expect a production team to correct the mis-pronunciation of common words that happened throughout the book.
Overall this was a good book even if it wasn't what I expected.
