About this listen

Shadow Ochoa is lying low in the Kansas Territory, waiting for his fellow Texas Rangers—the Hell's Eight brotherhood—to clear his name. That is, until he's unjustly strung up for horse thieving... and pretty Fei Yen intervenes. Invoking a seldomused law, the exotic lady prospector claims Shadow as her husband and rides off with the bridegroom shackled to her buckboard.

Savvy, fearless Fei is singlemindedly devoted to her hidden claim and all it promises: wealth, security and freedom. A husband is just a necessary inconvenience and a name on paper to hold the claim she cannot.

Shadow isn't a man to take orders from anyone, especially from lovely Fei—except the friction between them ignites into nightly blazes of allconsuming passion. Soon Shadow is dreaming a little himself: of the life they could have if Fei could see past the lure of independence. If bounty hunters weren't closing in on him. If he's left standing when the impending showdown has ended....

A Good Listen!

Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow's Stand to be better than the print version?

I don't really know. I think they would rate pretty much the same.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadow's Stand?

When Tracker confronted Shadow and tried to convince him that his life was worth something. I also liked when Hell's Eight broke Shadow out of jail and they made camp for the night and several of the eight gave Shadow a hard time about how much he had fallen in love. It was nice to see that these hard as hell guys have a good sense of humor.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Fei blew up the house of the man that her cousin was sold too. Shadow was so impressed by her bravery that he was speechless.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Ahh - maybe two or three sittings.

Any additional comments?

The narrator was good. There are some inconsistencies between this book and the previous books, but I'm still looking forward to the rest of the Hell's Eight books. I can't believe that it will take 3 more years to finish the series. I wonder if I'll move on and miss the last three books in the series.

Also, the author hasn't brought at least two of the Hell's Eight into any of the books or they've only had a line or two which I think will make it hard to draw them into the series. I'm not so sure that writing a series of 8 books over a period of 8 years is really a smart move because it does lead to inconsistencies and makes tying characters together between books a bit harder.

Not too Bad

I enjoy it but there was times where the writer did lose me. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would had been. I laugh at the parts when the guys were giving Shadow a hard time for being in love.

The Best in the Series

I love the way that this story line flowed, keeping my attention and interest, I listened to it without interruption, in one sitting. The characters are well defined although, there were times I thought Shadow was dumb and unconnected to Fey,
I would recommend this book, and the entire series in fact. All is well worth the credit.
I've enjoyed Savannah Richards' narration in a number of books and she never fails to do an excellent job in defining each character significantly.

Good but same song, next verse!

I want to start by saying that this particular narrator has a cadence that grates on me. It is the same with every book she narrates. Due to this, l rated this book lower than previous books, in this series.
Overall, I have enjoyed this series, so far. However, the basic storyline has been repeated in every book, and it’s getting a bit boring. I’ll have to take a break and come back to finish this series later. I will eventually finish the series. I want to experience each of the eight’s fall from bachelorhood.

The Best of the Hell's Eight Series

I love this series, and enjoyed the fact that all the characters stayed connected throughout the series. What made this audiobook most enjoyable was the narrator, she did a outstanding job

Another Great one in the series!

Would you consider the audio edition of Shadow's Stand to be better than the print version?

Did not read the print version.

What did you like best about this story?

It was actually quite humorous - from the beginning premise...going to a hanging to buy a husband!

What does Savannah Richards bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I enjoyed her performance...it was good and her characters were well performed and defined.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was a really good story along with the hot, sexually erotica.

Any additional comments?

What has happened to Sarah McCarthy - I cannot find any current information about her writing. I'm desperate for the rest of the series to be released on audio!

Loved the heroine

Fei is fantastic. She is brave and competent and smart and kind. She is the real "hero" of this story. It's her competence and courage that stand out most.
Shadow is a bit of an ass. I liked him, but probably the least out of all of the previous Hell's Eight heroes.
The one complaint I have is what some others liked - there wasn't as much sex and it wasn't as explicit or drawn out as in the first three books.
It was still hot, and there were still a few scenes, but the heat level went down a notch.

Overall a good story...

I was intrigued by the story, it was a little short I thought But overall a good listen. I read the first book and decided I didn't really want to read them in order so I picked up this one, and it was a good choice if you read Cain's Reckoning and get a feel for the characters you can pick up this book and not feel lost.

WOW! This was NICE!

I loved this book and Shadow and Faye and WOW! Sadly this is the first book I've read of the "Hell's Eight" series...now I've got to go and start from the beginning...I hope the first four books are as good as this one....
