Publisher's summary

For years, the Shalador people suffered the cruelties of the corrupt queens who ruled them, forbidding their traditions, punishing those who dared show defiance, and forcing many more into hiding. Now that their land has been cleansed of tainted blood, the Rose-Jeweled Queen, Lady Cassidy, makes it her duty to restore it and prove her ability to rule. But even if Lady Cassidy succeeds, other dangers await.

For the Black Widows see visions within their tangled webs that something is coming that will change the land - and Lady Cassidy - forever.

Listen to another Black Jewels gem.

Critic reviews

“A lavishly detailed, exotic background...brings to mind the sensual fiction of Tanith Lee and Storm Constantine and should appeal to fans of dynastic fantasy.” (Library Journal)

fantastic story - horrible accent for Janelle

LOVED the story! I love all of the stories set in the Black Jewels world. And John Sharien did a great job reading this story, and ask the others, which was why it was frustrating and disapponting to hear him give Janelle a Celtic accent in this book and The Shadow Queen.

Otherwise this book is hands down my favorite of the entire series!

Addictive ! Addictive!

I have read all the books in this series and this is by far the best. This is book number 8 called Shalador's Lady. It is tightly packed with the missing action from the previous book, because now is the time for our characters to dig in and fight for who they want to rule Dena Nehele. That's right... another Queen from Kaeleer stirs things up. There are three divisions in this book: Cassidy and her Court, Kermilla and those who want her, and the sideline observers--the SaDiablo family and some important rulers of Kaeleer. The reader builds a deeper understanding of the ruling system of the Blood and which lines are not to be crossed. How involved should outside help be in the influencing a Territory, especially when that Territory is straining under a tug-of-war for leadership? How to fight for land and people without decimating what's left with war? There are hard decisions to be made, in order to accomplish the original premise of The Shadow Queen--restoring faith and the Old Ways of the Blood to weary and wary survivors of Dena Nehele. Fascinating, how this plays out.

Favorite so far!

This was my favorite so far. Loved the ending! Also, Jaenelle’s accent was dropped in the audio version. Thank you for that!

Emotional moment

If you have seen my reviews for the past two books, then you’ll be relieved to know that narrator has changed Jaenelle’s accent again; thankfully for the better! I was very excited!
Now that the voice thing is done, the story was really made for me with the emotional moment with Collie. The author did great with this part of the story.

Better than the first trilogy

much better than the first trilogy, understandable since they had to setup the characters and so on and so forth. this book was sweet, loving, suspenseful, scary at times..

Absolutely Amazingly Wonderful!

And yet again I am taken into the world of The Blood. Shalador's Lady is another puzzle piece that makes up the complete picture of the world that Anne Bishop has created, with John's narration bringing all the characters to life!
