Death of a Mystery Writer's Wife

In Sharpe Turn by Lisa B. Thomas, Deena Sharpe finds herself at loose ends after retiring from being a high school journalism teacher and then a journalist and an investigator for a short time. With her husband, Gary, against her getting involved in other dangerous situations, Deena decides to take a mystery writing class, taught by the famous author Max Decker. But before the break can conclude, police officers have arrived to tell Max that his wife has been killed in a car wreck that looks like foul play.

Deena has no intention of getting involved in this mystery until her brother, Russell Sinclair, calls her to ask for her help when his best friend, Cliff Ables, gets taken into the police station for questioning. Deena looks all over for clues and starts investigating to look for a way to clear Cliff, being led into looking for clues to the true murderer.

Sharpe Turn, the fourth book in the Cozy Suburbs Mystery series, proved to be a fun and creative book to listen to. The series seems to improve with each new book and come up with interesting angles in Deena's life. The plot has enough twists and turns to intrigue anyone, while the characters are fun in their depth and make us feel we truly know them.

Kelley Hazen performs the audio edition of this book, and her alto voice seems well- suited for this role. Using a gentle Southern accent for this book set in Texas, Hazen adds to the effectiveness of the book. With quality expressions, Hazen makes this book an extra enjoyable listening experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Sharpe Turn, a book that delighted and kept me attached to my phone on which it played. I didn't want to put it down. Fortunately, there are two more audiobooks in this series, so I will enjoy getting to listen to them soon. I give this book five stars.

Deena as good as ever...:)

Installment no. 4 is as good as all the other books in the series:) You just can't have enough of Deena Sharpe, her crazy adventures and murder investigations that somehow just happen to find her, whether she wants them or not:)

This time Deena has to help her brother's friend to prove his innocence - and as usual before we find out who the real killer is we will discover clues, uncover secrets and suspect more than one person only to change our mind with every new piece of evidence or information Deena finds... We'll also smile a lot - Deena has a knack for getting into embarassing situations:)
The plot is really fast, dialogues funny, background characters colourful and sometimes quirky but believable, and the ending as surprising as it should be:)

Narration by Ms Hazen is also as good as in all the other books in the series. The character voices are very well done, diversified and well-matched, and the pace of her reading makes it easy to follow the story. A wonderful interpretation of the book:)

Great Book!

This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

Sharpe Turn

SHARPE TURN: Cozy Suburbs Mystery Book #4
by Lisa B. Thomas

Deena Sharpe is back trying to figure out what's next for her career. This is a fun, clean, cozy mystery. There is plenty of suspense as the number of suspects grows. The characters are fun, and each one has a personality all their own. This series gets better and better with humor to keep the listener engaged; even though I figured out who the villain was about half way thru.I didn't guess the motive. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Kelley Hazen gives an excellent performance as always! So much so, I'm listening again!

Good mystery, great characters, terrific comedy - the fight at the office is hilarious! I say no more - solid narration, new plot lines for the family. I loved it!

'SHARP' COZY MYSTERY

A very fun series and this one does not disappoint. A famous mystery writer moves to town and teaches a mystery writing course. His wife is murdered and a friend of the family is accused - that's how Deena gets involved. Lots of twists and turns - that might have been more deeply fleshed out. But with the wonderful sub plots parallel to the mystery, I was NOT left wanting for entertainment. You get what you expect from this cozy mystery.

The Sharpe books really grow on you...

This is my 2nd Sharpe cozy mystery series book by Lisa B. Thomas, narrated by Kelley Hazan and I've found that the series has really grown on me. I think the key thing for me has been the narrator...she is absolutely fantastic at capturing voice nuance and really makes you feel like you're a fly on the wall listening to suburban housewives engage in petty squabbles, typical awkward moments between in-laws in middle America, an average people trying to go about the business of living whilst not-so-average things occur all around them. Kelley Hazan animates those quirky ancillary characters beautifully as well...this time around it was the main character's brother's cantankerous old friend. The things he said and that hilarious voice he said them with...the whole situation had me laughing out loud on a few occasions. These books are fantastic at the bedside as there's truly a soothing quality to the stories themselves (I suppose there's a reason they're called "cozy") and to Hazan's voice. I believe these books are good enough to rival the famous Diane Mott Davidson Goldie Bear Cozy Mystery audio books (also beautifully narrated). Thank you to Ms. Thomas, Ms. Hazan, and audiobook boom for the complimentary copy of this book. I have left my unbiased review here of my own accord.

Fun Listen!

This is such a fun series and enjoyable listen. The narration fits this cozy story and the character of Deena is so cute and quirky. I find so much of the story as relatable to life. The humor is good too. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written the review. This is a clean story and appropriate for most ages. It is a standalone listen and not a cliffhanger.

Keeps getting better and better!!

The characters are well written and defined. And, as usual with the bad guys in the Cozy Suburbs Mystery Series, the bad guys have no heart at all. I can relate to the good guys in this series, but these bad guys.... I guess I just can't fathom people this bad. But, then again, I think I lead a sheltered life.

If you want a great mystery/cop story with action packed reading, this is definitely the book for you. I warn you though. Once you start with your first, you will be a fan for all of them.

I recommend this book highly.

Great Read

Sharpe Turn (Maycroft Mystery #4) was another good read by Lisa B. Thomas. Deena Sharpe has decided to learn how to write a good mystery novel in a class taught by a best selling author, Max Dekker. Unfortunately Max's wife is killed in a car crash. It seems as though everyone becomes a suspect and Deena gets pulled into investigating. I enjoyed reading about Deena's investigation and can't wait to read more by Lisa B. Thomas.
