About this listen

From the acclaimed author of Sherlock Holmes and The Christmas Demon comes another beautifully presented seasonal mystery.

The year 1889. The First Terror.

At a boys’ prep school in the Kent marshes, a pupil is found drowned in a pond. Could this be the fulfilment of a witch’s curse from 400 years earlier?

The year 1890. The Second Terror.

A wealthy man dies of a heart attack at his London townhouse. Was he really frightened to death by ghosts?

The year 1894. The Third Terror.

A body is discovered at a Surrey country manor, hideously ravaged. Is the culprit a cannibal, as the evidence suggests?

These three linked crimes test Sherlock Holmes’ deductive powers, and his skepticism about the supernatural, to the limit.

Very like the original Sherlock

The plots are seamlessly interwoven with the original Holmes stories. The narrative style is convincing and i look forward to more tales in this vein

Excellent seasonal mysteries

I’m always skeptical of Sherlock Holmes pastiches, as it’s difficult to capture the spirit of the originals. This book, which is three interconnected short stories, does quite a good job capturing the tone and characters of Conan Doyle’s originals. The stories themselves are clever and are “fair play” mysteries. The narrator is good. I definitely recommend it for a Christmastime listen.

Well done

A well conceived story. Good narration. I like the allusion to other well known Holmes cases in the book. I recommend.

Excellent book

Well written in the style of Conan Doyle. Reader terrific too. The blending of three stories into one coherent ending was a great touch.

Well done!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Whoa! I was not ready for how expertly these three stories were weaved. Lovegrove is a great writer and composes a great Sherlock Holmes story. I can't wait to read the next one. 😍😍

I definitely didn't always see who done it. But I love how the resolution incorporated little details along the way. If you listen carefully, you can catch some as the story progresses.

Well done! Highly recommend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lovegrove’s Holmes doesn’t disappoint

Another rip roaring Sherlockian tale from James Lovegrove. I loved the narration. It fits the tale and it is first rate.

Excellent Talent put to an Excellent Legacy

Highly recommended audio book! Made especially suspenseful/spooky when I was cleaning my pool one dark night while listening here in Oregon.

An uber-gifted Sir Doyle Ghost is Mr. Lovegrove, and Narrator Mr. Kleinman does every character supreme justice.

"Excellent!" I cried. "Elementary," said he.
