About this listen

For as long as she can remember, Ember Maxwell’s life hasn’t been her own. A world-renowned influencer, she’s a brand unto herself, created by her parents - who also want Olympic glory for their only daughter. Years of grueling training have led to Seoul, Korea, and a spot on the modern pentathlon team. It’s a turning point for Ember in more ways than one. Chafing against her parents’ tight reins, she opts to stay in the Olympic Village, a decision that leads to a gravely harrowing event...and a man unlike any she’s ever met.

Craig “Doc” Wagner has actively avoided the spotlight since childhood, a trend that’s continued with his career as a Delta Force soldier. Falling for someone whose entire life is splashed on social media is possibly the worst idea ever, though his attraction to Ember won’t be denied. It’s not long before he discovers they have plenty in common where it really matters…but he lives in Texas, and her life is in California. So Doc will take every stolen moment they can get.

When Ember makes a few life-changing decisions, Doc is thrilled. The same can’t be said for some of her biggest fans, including one who sees Ember’s new direction as the ultimate betrayal…that should cost her the ultimate price.

Shielding Ember is the seventh book in the Delta Team Two series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliff-hanger endings.

The narrator ??

The story was good as the others were but the narrator was not very good. Her voice changes weren't very good. What happened to Virginia Rose?

Great story..

Loved it, I haven't read a book by Susan Stoker that hasn't touched me in someway.. I can't wait for Grover and Sierra's story.

Loved it!

Ember is a media sensation and on her way to the Olympics. As =part of the Delta Team, Doc and his teammates are extra security during the games. When these 2 come together, it’s good and bad. Good because they each have an instant connection and the chemistry is explosive..bad because Doc needs to stay out the limelight and Ember has the light shone on her constantly. How will these 2 come together..especially when Ember’s life is at stake and Doc will do anything to keep the woman he finally found, safe?

First, I love it when an author steps out of their comfort zone to write a character of a different race. It’s important to ensure that it is done respectfully and without stereotypical references that may be considered offensive to the reader and Susan ensured that Ember was clearly written in a good light. I loved the connection Doc has with Ember and how he understood race and race relations from his perspective by not only seeing it objectively, but living it in his own way.

Ember was strong and vulnerable at the same time. Watching her emerge from the life that was built for her into carving out a life that she saw for herself was refreshing. We got to connect with not only the team, but their women as well and saw how Ember connected with them just as nicely. I would have loved to meet Doc’s family and seen how he connects with them

I appreciated how the bulk of the story didn’t focus on race. The story is about Ember and Doc, not entirely black and white. We got to know them and roll into the connection they had together.

The story was refreshing and gave us a nice set up for the final installment. Susan continues to give us a well rounded story that gets wrapped up in a tiny bow.

Nice addition, good chemistry

I've read/listened to every Susan Stoker work and this one is a nice addition- no POW or torture, rape, etc (she writes about soldiers so there is a limit to the material). This one is a meet at the Olympics with a social influencer who is not at all what her Instagram says she is. Doc and Ember have chemistry and the story flows well, I listened in one day. Oh I also learned about the pentathlon sport which I knew almost nothing about. As usual she sets the next one up well.

Love These books

I have loved the entire book series. Waited patiently for this book. Loved the story line and can’t wait for the next book. The only thing I didn’t like was the narrator. She did a pretty bad job of the other voices. She couldn’t get the right sound. If the books was a duet with a male voice it may have worked. Overall I love these books and the previous books are my favorites and I listen to the all the time.

What an exciting ‘almost end’

Doc and Embers story was so good and had so many clever twists and turns. My money was on Julio. I was thoroughly shocked at the end. I’m also really pumped for Grover and Sierra’s story to finally be told! Hats off Ns Stoker! Well done.

Great story! Realistic about life as a non-Caucasian. Bad narration.

Great story! No ignoring the realities of life as a non-Caucasian, but also didn’t exaggerate the issue. The Narrator was terrible, she had a wonky cadence and couldn’t keep the different character voices attached to the same character the whole way through the book. That made keeping who said what straight very hard.

LOVED this book!!!

I loved this book! Another amazing story by Susan Stoker. Doc and Ember are great together and really kick a$$! Nina Archer’s narration was awesome. The epilogue really gets me excited about Grover and Sierra’s story, it’s gonna be epic.
