About this listen

When a book launch party turns murderous, can he capture a killer before they escape justice?

DCI Harry Grimm has a sneaking suspicion the bleak Yorkshire Dales are growing on him. Though shadows from his big-city past still loom, he’s finding his place among the quirky townsfolk and their eccentric eating habits. But his gruesome crime scene expertise takes center stage when a successful visiting author is found dead.

Investigating the cantankerous writer’s entourage, Grimm lines up too many suspects with motives for murder. But with the evidence not adding up and the press piling on relentless pressure, the determined policeman could end up facing his own final chapter.

Can this seasoned detective solve a sinister case of fatal fair game?

Shooting Season is the atmospheric fourth book in the DCI Harry Grimm crime fiction series. If you like complex heroes, fast-paced action, and murky mysteries, then you’ll love David J. Gatward’s gritty manhunt.

They get better and better

Grimm is a great character who can defeat two thugs who are armed with a ball bat and a chain at one instance and stoop to rub Fly, the puppy's head the next. The action is fast and the twists surprising. I will read them as soon as they are released!

Love the relationships between the characters, and each one is special in his or her own way as well!

Also, really loved Harry's sympathy and understanding of his predecessors problems and his sad ending in life

Good story. Great characters.

Mr. Parsons brings the characters to life.
Makes me want to jump a plane and spend some time out with the cake and cheese.

Another Excellent Grimm

I know it’s murder but I love it! I can’t get enough of Grimm and his team…..including Fly! Aubrey Parsons is the perfect narrator and David Gatward is the perfect weaver of Grimm’s tales! I am doing my best not to binge all of his novels but it’s not easy!

Another narrator, please

Enjoyed it very much but sure could use a different narrator. Hard to listen to and takes from the story which I really liked

love this series!

The only problem I have with this series is I get thru it to quickly! I LOVE IT! The characters are so much fun and the humor is fantastic! I wish I could see the places he writes about not I'm in Massachusetts, USA.

Gorgeous writing!

The only weakness of these stories is the predictable solution. I usually can't figure out who the murderer is, but this one I was able to guess quite early on. But the prose was so engaging and the main characters so likeable that I just didn't care. One of my favorite chapters in any mystery ever is the one in this book where Grimm gets the autopsy results. It's darkly hilarious. And as others have written, any scene with the dog , Fly, in it lifts my spirits.

Dave and Aubrey what a team, I can’t imagine Harry’s voice as anyone but Aubrey!
Love this group, makes me want to go visit, headed for book 5, can’t wait.

Appreciation for the Dales

The author has a way of placing the reader in the setting for the story, the Dales. Transforming a reader into a viewer.
