Good story. Short.

I have been looking forward to listening to a book with a dancer. Narration was good started out a little rough to where I wasn’t sure I would be able to listen to the whole thing. Much better as the story progressed. Plot was ok i didn’t realize or maybe paid close attention that it was a college romance. Characters were good. Over all a nice book if like dancers and deadlines for college.

Great listen!

This is such a great short listen. I really like Deme and Gavin. They are so sweet together and i love their love story. Eric Umstott does a great job with the narration. He made me like this story even more.

Interesting, very quick read

"Shot the Plot" (2016, 2020) by Lynn Michaels is an interesting, very quick read about two college students—Gavin, a musician, and Deme, a talented dancer—who are forced to work together for the sake of a college project. After a very rocky start, the two develop an attraction. The book contains very explicit homoerotic scenes not for the prudish. Not my usual fare but the story entertained me, and that’s all I ask of fiction. Eric Umstott’s narration kept me engaged. Solidly recommended. At my request, I was given this free audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.

Short and entertaining

I was given the opportunity to listen in exchange for an honest review. Both author and narrator were new to me. I have never listened to a two hour book before, so I was I intrigued to see how the plot would progress. The book moved very quickly, but was engaging and held my interest. Its definitely light, low angst, more of a young adult mindset. The writing flowed smoothly, and was descriptive. dialogue was good. I liked the narrator. his voice was rich , there was good definition and transition between characters making them all distinct. I respect the authors choice for making the book short and sweet, but wonder how the story could have developed had she given more character development. The characters were cute and quirky but I didn't feel an overall emotional connection to them. quick, light, breezy.

A romantic short story...

shot the plot is a 4 star. I really enjoyed this short story. It was more developed but sometimes the transition is a little fast and I think if the story was a tad bit longer it would have been a lot more smooth. I was invested in the couple. Although Demi was hot and cold it made it more sense as to why he was scared. He wanted serious and it didn't look like his cute musician was serious about anything in his life. a cute little opposites attract romantic short.

Cute story, awkward narration.

I like Lynn Michaels, and probably would have enjoyed this more if I had read it in print. The narrator was just awkward. His female voice was cringe-worthy, and the voice he did for the second MC was like I would imagine a European grandma sounds. Ok, but definitely not a re-listen. YMMV

Enjoyable Enough Story, Narration Not So Much

This light and fairly steamy opposites-attract romance between dancer Demi and musician Gavin unfolds after, much to Demi's initial protests, the college students are paired together for a class project. It's told in single POV (Gavin's) and doesn't really contain any surprises, and at only two hours, the audio is a fast listen.

Demi's a bit bossy, Gavin is smitten from the start, and they appear to be opposites but actually have a lot in common. There's a light touch of angst (misunderstanding, jealousy) and playfulness as they quickly navigate from being classmates to friends-with-benefits to admitting having all the feels for one another.

Unfortunately, the audio just didn't do it for me. Narrator Eric Umstott has a pleasant voice in general, but his accent for Demi, which is supposed to sound slightly Ukrainian, was inconsistent and sounded like an awful fake British one. I found the voice distracting, and it really hampered my overall listening enjoyment. I received a free review copy of this audio book and have left this honest review voluntarily. Absolutely quick read

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for three main reasons:
1) The story made me swoon and laugh;
2) The plot was straightforward and elegant-boy 1 meets boy 2, boy 1 falls for boy 2 (even though he thinks boy 2 is out of his league), boy 2 rejects boy 1, but ultimately surrenders to his cuteness. There is a woeful misunderstanding which is resolved by the tenacity of the boy 1. The “L” word is blurted out at an awkward time, but the awkwardness dissipates because the feelings are reciprocated-Love wins the day and we have a HFN ending; and
3) Great narrator.

It was refreshing to read a story that takes place in a time and place where there is no homophobia. The two characters are able to freely express their love for each other and that there is unconditional acceptance and love from thine around them.

Narrator: bravo!!! Eric Umstott was great. Officially added to my list of favs!
