About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Tilly Bagshawe, continuing the enduring legacy of number one best-selling suspense author Sidney Sheldon, is back with a new tale of glamour, suspense, and unexpected twists in Sidney Sheldon’s A Silent Widow.

A young American au pair, Charlotte Clancy, vanishes without a trace in Mexico City. The case is left cold, but its legacy will be devastating.

A decade later, Los Angeles is shaken by a spate of violent murders. Psychologist Nikki Roberts is the common link between the victims, her patients at the heart of this treacherous web. When someone makes an attempt on Nikki’s life, it’s clear she is a marked woman.

Nikki makes a living out of reading people, drawing out their secrets, but the key to this shocking pattern eludes her. With the police at a dead end, Nikki drafts Derek Williams, a PI who isn’t afraid to put his hand into the hornet’s nest. Williams was thwarted in the notorious Charlotte Clancy case all those years ago, but what he unearths in LA—and the mention of one name in particular - leaves him cold...and takes him on a dangerous path into the past.

A shadowy manipulator has brought his deadly game to the streets of LA. In a crime spanning generations, it seems Nikki Roberts knows far too much—and a ruthless killer knows the price of her silence.

In this crooked city, where enemies and friends are one and the same, Nikki must be the master of her own escape.

dark, with graphic violence

This review is to alert readers of the intense graphic violence so they can make an informed decision.

It was startling to encounter such a vivid torture scene in the prologue. The next chapter had TRIGGERS for self-harm. I continued on autopilot and the story stepped back in time and caught my interest. However, the graphic violence continued, from more perspectives.

There are times when I enjoy the dark and violence, but in this phase of Covid I'm looking for a break in the dark. Sometimes crime stories come with some heroic and triumphant feels, but this close-up on the worst of humanity isn't for me today. What I heard so far was at least good enough, so perhaps I'll revisit it later.

Had Promise

This started out good but then it became hard to read/listen to.To many directions and to wordy felt that at least 3 to 4 chapters could have been taken out of the story. A twist or turn is okay but this had way to many and became disinterested.

Wow

I know there is a book for everyone but this was not the book for me. I kept wanting the heroine to have some sort of happiness- anything at all that would give her some closure. That really is the only thing that kept me listening and when it never came it left me unfulfilled. I guess not every book ends in a neat and tidy bow and this one certainly doesn’t. Sad really. I would have given the story a better review had it not left me wanting more for the main character.

Kept me listening

I love a good story line and plot, and for me I received that. This was a free download, one that I didn't have to quickly delete and request a refund. To sum it up, this audiobook kept me interested and listening. The narrators voice was perfect and wasn't annoying. Each character was brought to life in my mind and she did a good job of creating that for me. I believe you'll find this book entertaining especially if you like mystery and suspense.

Predictable characters

This book would have been more enjoyable, if the story and its characters weren’t so darn predictable, and the therapist more intuitive

Twist I didn't see

Fantastic narrator. So many characters I often found myself confused on who was who, then add in full names and nicknames and I was really lost. Aside from that a good listen.

Explosive Suspence Novel!

This was a great Sidney Shelton novel...the kind that almost forbids you to interrupt. Many twists and turns and totally unexpected outcomes. This is far from a mushy love story; it is a deep dive into crime, corruption, torture, and murder, leaving Nikki to eventually pick up the pieces and find a way to dig out of the deep hole. I would love to see a sequel, even a short novel to find what becomes of the characters who survived.
