About this listen

A mildly political prisoner, incarcerated in an intolerant banana republic, manages to keep in touch with his lover outside, in spite of the heavy odds stacked against them, by inventing an ingenious method for signaling in secret - the story references Bizet's Carmen.

Unexpectedly Romantic

Like some of the other stories from this author, I could have listened to more, if he had wanted to go on. This was a lovely and unique sort of romance story beautifully narrated with a voice that lent itself to artfully painting the scene, and helping the reader see the movement and placement of the socks in the window.

One of my favorites

I get frequent migraines and I couldn’t sleep last night and this was the first thing I put on. Easy listening and good story. I found it really really funny— which I’m hoping was the point— but in a sad, bittersweet kind of way. Description was wonderful as always, and the writing is just brilliant. I love the narrator’s voice. It’s so calming and adds to the fun fantasy element that Bodroghy always has in his books.

Great Suspenseful Tale

I really enjoyed the perspective Emelle's voice provided of an inmate with his forbidden love. The different characters were really fun to listen to and you felt like you could see everything that was going on. Very enjoyable and thrilling!

Melancholy romance

The narrator's voice found the perfect balance telling a humorous tale tinged with sadness. Engaging and charming, The story is poignant without being overly sentimental. I found the words and images painted a touching and affecting little romance.
