About this listen

It’s been two years since Kate Evans unexpectedly lost her husband and one year since her aunt Cassandra stepped in and moved Kate and her son back to Colorado to start a new life.

Just when Kate is starting to get comfortable in her new reality, three very different men enter her life. Alec is young, easygoing, and up for anything. Nate is a divorced dad who is steady, reliable, and everything Kate should want. Jess is quite literally the boy next door, not to mention a real-life movie star straight from every girl’s dreams.

Is she really ready to jump into the dating scene again? Or, does she stay in the same safe place free from heartache? In between braving water slides to cheating at croquet, Kate is forced to confront things she’d rather leave buried, along with the possibility of a new love that is exactly what she needs.

Cute romance that had me smiling!

This is my first Aspen Hadley book and definitely won't be my last! It's hard to believe this is her first book. I enjoyed this sweet romance between a young widow with a young son and the handsome movie star.

Kate doesn't fall for Jess Sullivan right away. Though she's always had a crush on the suave good-looking star, she wants more than a pretty face. She went through losing her parents and her husband so she's not anxious to get involved again only to have her heart broken. Jess for his part is a really nice guy. He's not the typical Hollywood hunk. He has a good heart and genuinely cares for Kate and her son.

Kate doesn't believe a handsome, wealthy, actor could possibly love her. Which sometimes gets annoying because it's obvious that Jess likes her for her and wants to get to know her better. He sees her at her worst (stained shirt and sweatpants!) and even her snarky comments don't turn him off. She dates other guys, but Jess is truly the one who is always there for her.

I enjoyed this cute, sweet, funny romance. The audiobook version was pretty good. The narrator injected just the right amount of emotion. I tend to prefer narrators who change their voice to distinguish between the characters, but even though she didn't do this, it was still an enjoyable audiobook.

Highly recommend this book and look forward to more books by this author. Thanks to Cedar Fort for the complimentary audiobook. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

a sweet story

I loved the story and the writing was pretty good. it builds and has good character development. and it's wonderful in so many ways... However, I am disappointed with the author for writing a female character with such low self esteem, body issues, and so unsure of herself, and seen as uncapable by others. when she in reality was strong enough to overcome a difficult past. I felt that having a character with a little more self assurity would have added to the story. The character is constantly commenting on her negative body beliefs in her inner dialog and it's so off-putting I want to read about women who don't hate themselves every once in a while. I get having esteem issues once in a while but it's like an issue reading the character.
