Rich Wilkerson Jr.
About this listen
The latest book from Pastor Rich Wilkerson, Jr., Single & Secure, is a guide for living a fulfilling, abundant life, single.
“Your best days are the days you live to the fullest. That starts now. Your best days aren’t the ones that lie ahead, somewhere on the other side of romance, a career, or a family. Your best days are the ones you’re living now.”
Rich Wilkerson, Jr., has encouraged, counseled, and led thousands of individuals through the different seasons that life brings. His message in this book is clear: Life is made of seasons, and no season is lost or forever. Rich explains that marriage does not produce contentment. Rather, contentment comes from learning to find value in the season you’re experiencing today. With his typical wit and profound insight into the gospel and culture, Rich will take us on a journey to see the beautiful, fun, productive stage of life called being single in a new way. With that in mind, if you are single, were single, or know a single, this book is for you.

Story
There are many things that seem normal or average today that at one point in time seemed absolutely crazy. Smartphones, Wi-Fi, and even the electric light bulb were all groundbreaking, history-making inventions that started out as crazy ideas. Our see-it-to-believe-it generation tends to have a hard time exercising true faith - one that steps out, takes action, and sees mountain-moving results. Many of us would rather play it safe and stand on the sidelines, but it’s crazy faith that helps us see God move and reveals His promises.

As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

What comes to mind when you think about prayer? Does it feel like something for holy people but not for you? Or like a mystical experience you could never hope to achieve in real life? Or maybe just a boring duty with little payoff? In this book, author and pastor Chad Veach demystifies the concept of prayer by explaining in practical terms what prayer looks like in our day-to-day lives. It turns out, it's not hard! This passionate, personal approach to prayer removes the pressure to "pray right" and replaces it with the calm assurance that God wants to hear from us.

Everyone wants to be loved - to find someone who will stick with them through all of life's ups and downs, someone who is in it for the long haul. But in a world where dating is increasingly based on split-second decisions and geared toward casual relationships rather than marriage, it's easy for single people to feel discouraged, used, or unworthy of true love. Jonathan "JP" Pokluda wants to dispel the myths, misconceptions, and fairy tales you've believed about dating and replace them with the truth from the One who invented marriage and created you to crave a relationship.

But the good news is that it is possible to find love in a way that honors both God and the opposite sex. Christian Lite yet very helpful
This book is not deeply theological however the common sense practicality throughout the book is refreshing. The pastor weaves together Christian values and the truth of Jesus with practical suggestions on how to not live in shame as a “single”. He doesn’t let everyone off the hook, either, He gives great ideas of how to stop living in self-pity and how to work towards a great mindset.

This book reads like a fireside chat with Rich about how to approach your relationship with: 1) yourself and 2) others. The examples he shares from his own life and the stories he shares from others feel like a look behind the curtain into some of the funniest, difficult, and profound moments of their lives….the content of this book is an absolute game changer and he does a fantastic job at making it easy to understand and simple to apply in every life!
