About this listen

Read by the author.

Waiting isn't a season. Waiting is life. The question is, Will you live in the wait?

We don't ever graduate from waiting. After one prayer is answered, a new one begins, putting us back in the "space between." Are you hoping for an illness to subside, a job to open up, a relationship to develop, or some other heartfelt transformation? This slow burn is the human experience—and the greatest invitation to become intimately acquainted with a faithful God.

Waiting is hard, but it's not a punishment; it's a process. God is not delaying; He's developing. He is not leaving you; He's loving you. He's saying, Come closer. Let me lead you into wonder and show you how you can live wholeheartedly right here, right now.

DawnCheré Wilkerson will speak strength to your soul and give you tools to

  • live confident that God is working more powerfully than you know;
  • wrestle with the question, What if what I hope for doesn't happen?;
  • find the purpose and life-giving moments he has for you now; and
  • view all of life as a joyful, soul-deepening, intimacy-building wait.

More strength, expectation, and patience are within your reach, even amid uncertainty and suffering. Lean into the work of the wait—the constant, steady, slow burn of faith and surrender to your ultimate source. And you'll discover the wonder of the wait—glimpses of heaven, a perfect love that changes you, and each step celebrated along the way.

This book is exactly what I needed in this season. The subtle and gentle loving nudge is exactly what I needed. Especially chapter 7- who’s waiting on whom. It helped me come to the realization that I needed to surrender some things in my heart. It was healing. Highly recommend this book to anyone feeling disappointed that promises and dreams haven’t come to pass yet. It’s deeply encouraging.

exactly the read I needed as I look to steward my wait well and praise God before the miracle. I can't recommend this book enough, I'm already telling people in my small group about it! The honesty while focusing on the faithfulness of God is an incredible testimony DC. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your heart for Jesus ❤️ It pours out of every page, and ministered to my soul

From chapter one I knew I needed this message. I don’t know of anyone who isn’t waiting on something and this call and guide on living while you wait is so encouraging. I’m listening for the second time this week, because my spirit just felt so hungry for this type of teaching and really, coaching. Looking forward to sharing this with friends and I hope she writes another book soon!

This Book Changed My Life

Slow Burn is a beautiful reminder to slow down and truly enjoy the life God has given us. Written by my beloved pastor, whose life and words have always pointed to joy, hope, and purpose, this book invites us to live fully, savor deeply, and trust completely. It’s not just about having fun or finding pleasure, it’s about learning to recognize and celebrate God’s goodness in every season, even the slow ones.

Some of the chapters that touched me the most were one, eight, and seventeen. I loved how she reminds us that life doesn’t have to be fast to be meaningful.

What impacted me the most was the invitation to remember. To write things down. To go back and see how far we’ve come and how faithful God has been. Scripture even tells us that God remembers His promises so how much more should we make space in our lives to remember what He has done for us? This book taught me that remembering is not just reflection but it’s a way of keeping our faith alive.

One of the most special parts of getting the Audible version is hearing her sing. Her voice is beautiful, and those moments of music add an extra layer of intimacy and authenticity to the experience, like you’re truly sitting with her, heart to heart.

Slow Burn isn’t just for one kind of person, it is for anyone who needs to be reminded that God’s work can also unfold slowly.

My best friend and I are reading/listening together. It has been life-changing, really, to hear DawnChere share her most intimate moments- it’s as if we’re having coffee together. Chapter 5 deeply touched me. As someone who is walking through the “not yet” of starting a family, I thought it would be those stories that touched me deeply- and they have, however the Holy Spirit through DawnChere’s testimony has given me new eyes to see that fear is not something to just manage but something God wants to completely set us free from. So thankful for this book.

Hearing DawnChere share her story is so beautiful.
