Publisher's summary

The first complete audio recording in English of the spiritual text of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib with beautiful, soothing background music.

This relaxing recording enables an English-speaking audience to understand and experience the spiritual wisdom of the Sikh Faith. Play selected tracks from it, listen to it in its entirety or put the album on repeat to create a continuous vibration of peace and tranquility in your home or other space.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is more than just a scripture. The Sikhs regard and respect the Granth (holy book) as their living Guru. The revealed holy text spans 1,430 pages and contains the actual words spoken by the founders of the Sikh way of life.

The Sikh Gurus incorporated not only their own sacred poetry, but also included the poems of another 30 saints from different religions, places and times.

These songs are set to 31 different musical scales, called ragas, that evoke the feelings of different times of day, different emotions and the seasons of the year.

The Guru Granth Sahib is now considered to be the "perpetual Guru" as there are no longer individual gurus who head the Sikh tradition. The sacred poetry and teachings contained in the Guru Granth Sahib are the final authority in Sikh spirituality and tradition.

Listening to these songs of wisdom evokes feelings of peace and contentment in the listener. The words speak of eternal truths and the nature of reality. The background accompaniment is comprised of nature sounds and soothing spiritual music.

The English translation of the original text is by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa, except for the opening verses known as “Japji Sahib” which have been translated by Guruka Singh Khalsa. The readers include recording artists Sirgun Kaur and Sat Kirn Kaur along with SikhNet founders Guruka Singh and Gurumustuk Singh and others.

great for my mental health

I have been listening to this recording of SGGS daily for 2 years. I appreciate the pace of reading and soundscape which backs the readings. English translation is a bit frustrating, there is a lot of gendering of Waheguru ji but this recording is a great choice for English language speakers wanting to follow the path of Sikhi.

Lovely, just glitched at the end

I loves it overall. As one who's dipping into all sorts of world religions, it's one of the best ways I've found to start learning and loving the basics of the Guru Granth. I wish they had one for the Dasam Granth as well. The voice actors aren't always stellar, but given the character and length of the work I imagine they were volunteers, or mor enthusiastic than skilled. They do fine. The key issue for me is that the last 19 hours or so won't play. I've redownloaded the whole thing, and the file must be corrupted or something, because it won't play. Fix that, and I think it's a perfect background for either focused study or learning by osmosis as you do other tasks

It’s a conversation with god

I have grown up listening to these words in Sanskrit. Unfortunately I wasn’t really able to understand it fully. Even when I went and listened at the Sikh temple. My family couldn’t explain it fully because they aren’t fluent speakers of English. If this is an accurate translation in to English these are the conversations between the Sikh gurus and the supreme being word millions of people live and die by. I’m thankful I can now hear it in the language I can understand the fullest. Wahe Guru

good but the "pause" throws me off

can someone let me know if the "pause" has a reason, I assume it's meant for a hymn or liturgy but as someone who is listening just for the text it throws me off quite a bit

An open secret for the world

As an American born Sikh going to Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship), I never fully understood the kathas (explanations of the shabad)delivered by the raagis (Sikh priests). My understanding of the faith came from classes held in my youth and through my parents, first generation immigrants. Like a lot of immigrant children, the beauty of our cultures are not necessarily taught well due to a language barrier.

This audiobook is helping me realize what the beauty of Sikhi truly is. For the first time in my life, I’m understanding the words of the guru in my first language. I understand that the true translation of Gurbani is meant to be determined by the reader, and interpretations vary from person to person due to the poetic nature of Gurbani. However, I feel a connection to the faith of my ancestors for the first time in a way I have never felt before. It makes me want to understand the Gurbani for myself.

If the world only knew the message of acceptance and love in the Guru Granth Sahib, a secular world without hatred and war would flourish. You do not need to be a Sikh to appreciate the message. I just finished Book 2, chapter 22 and the message in that chapter is universal. A message I wish every person in the world could hear.

Thank you Sikhnet for making/publishing this and everything else you do.

Sounds like AI

The speech is very disjointed, like individual words were recorded and then assembled by machine transcription
