About this listen
Terror on the Plains
Former Union scouts and saddle tramps Durken and McAfee are more than satisfied with their lives as cattle-punchers for Homer Eldridge and his Triple Six ranch. When a mysterious, black-clad preacher arrives in town leading a congregation of dwarfish foreigners, strange things begin to happen. First, cattle from various spreads are found savagely butchered out on the range for no apparent reason. Then, several Triple Six hands go missing. McAfee begins to suspect there is something very sinister about the new reverend and his people. Something that will bring more horror and destruction with it.
Writer Fred Adams, Jr. spins a weird western tale that will have readers on their edge of their seats and jumping at shadows. Mixing a heady brew that is half-H.P. Lovecraft and half-Louis L'Amour, Six-Gun Terrors is a creepy adventure not soon forgotten.

Story
It's the Arizona Territory. The year, 1848. The year the Mexican War ended. Fate and blazing pistols have just thrown together reporter and part-time drunk Marion T. Bell and the very nearly legendary John Charles Hart, mustanger and scout, in the Little Fanny Saloon. Plying the river-trade across the Colorado to the gold fields of California in the north, and war-torn Mexico to the south, the town of Gable's Ferry has sprung up overnight-lacking only a church, a schoolhouse and a jail.

Story
Trust was rare and precious in the wide-open towns that sprung up like weeds on America's frontier - with hustlers and hucksters arriving in droves by horse, coach, wagon, and rail, and gunmen working both sides of the law, all too eager to end a man's life with a well-placed bullet. The New York Times best-selling grand master of suspense deftly displays the other side of his genius, with seven classic Western tales of destiny and fatal decision...and trust as essential to survival as it is hard-earned.

Story
Louisiana, 2065. A lot has changed in the 43rd year of the Kurian Order. Possessed of an unnatural and legendary hunger, the bloodthirsty Reapers have come to Earth to establish a New Order built on the harvesting of enslaved human souls. They rule the planet. They thrive on the scent of fear. And if it is night, as sure as darkness, they will come.
On this pitiless world, the indomitable spirit of mankind still breathes in Lieutenant David Valentine.

Story
St. Louis in 1880 is full of ghosts - mangled soldiers, tortured slaves, the innocent victims of war - and Jacob Tracy can see them all. Ever since Antietam, when he lay delirious among the dead and dying, Trace has been haunted by the country's restless spirits. The curse cost him his family, his calling to the church, and damn near his sanity. He stays out of ghost-populated cities as much as possible these days, guiding wagon trains west with his pragmatic and skeptical partner, Boz.

Very happy with this one!
Excellent weird westerns. Not such a fan of Lovecraftian horror, but still liked the first story. The second story, about the Angel, was both an interesting civil war story and a unique tale of the supernatural. Narration was both satisfying and clean. On to Volume 2!
