Publisher's summary

Ars Baylock is a renegade, antisocial and domineering. He's also a math savant and highly intelligent ... and a high level hacker going by the hacker handle Ariez. The FBI want him, and they want him badly. They will use the replacement act to the Patriot Act to incarcerate him, with no lawyer, no phone call and no trial -- possibly for life. But can he use that incredible mind of his to get free?

TW: Adult sexual situations, drug usage, PTSD from past child abuse (only vaguely described), explicit language. A sequel to this novel is planned for September 2023.

A tale of redemption

Ars Baylock is an absolutely brilliant mind, but one who is lost. He is cynical, borderline suicidal and isolated from society. He has turned to drugs as a solace, and only finds comfort in the blue nowhere of the internet. He is also an impossibly gifted hacker, but now he’s hit the radar of the FBI, and has been taken into custody under the new Patriot two act, and they are determined to break him and permanently incarcerate him as a danger to National security. The only problem is they have no evidence. They must get him to incriminate himself in about a week’s time to meet the deadline of the next meeting of the Cyber Security sub committee of the Senate. Dave Anders is his case manager. An idealistic man, Anders finds himself torn between what he feels is right, and what he’s expected to do. Reluctantly, these two young men are forming a friendship, when everything tells them they should be enemies. How this develops, how Anders begins to draw Ars out and the secrets of Ars mind and his past slowly emerge to a final explosive conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to more. Christopher Andrews gives a masterful performance, switching voices effortlessly between characters and bringing the story to life with perfect pacing. Highly recommended.
