About this listen

Fear grips London as dozens of clubbers die after taking a sinister new drug. But that's only the beginning. 48 Hours later, the dead clubbers wake up - and it's open season on the living, which are butchered for their blood. Soon, London gives a name to its terror: Vampires. Jake Lawton, bitter and betrayed after the Iraq War, finds himself fighting another battle - against the growing army of immortal hunters and their human cohorts. Lawton joins forces with the journalist who brought about his downfall and the dealer tricked into distributing the drug. And together they take on the spineless authorities, the ruthless cohorts, and the hungry dead.

But the vampire plague unleashed in London is nothing to what lurks beneath the streets - Waiting to be fed ...Waiting to be resurrected... Waiting to reign again over a city of human slaves...

now that's my kind of vampire

Loved the vampires...maybe not the monsters, but I get why they added it. Overall, good story - fast moving and engrossing. Not nail biting - but stays with you long after each listen.

The cover is really awesome

This book just didn't take off for me. I'll admit I have the attention span of a five year old, but it just never hooked me. Didn't finish it. I gave 2 stars for the benefit of the doubt.

I'm Exhausted

First off, Arthur Darvill is an amazing narrator and I hope he does more audiobooks in the future. every voice and accent so was unique it was like listening to a whole cast. I would sometimes forget it was him talking. We met some characters who I thought would play a bigger part, but we didn't hear much about after. The vampire attacks were vicious and left me mentally drained everytime. The ending left me with a lot of questions and I'm not sure a sequel was ever made.

A Return To Scary Vampires!

So refreshing to hear a vampire story where they aren't sparkly, sexy, tormented immortals! Vampires are supposed to be scary and Thomas Emson remembered that. The characters are very real. I could have done without the political ranting about the Iraq war, but overall enjoyed the story and am looking forward to the next 2 books. Arthur Darvill (Rory from Doctor Who) does an excellent job narrating and I hope he will narrate the rest of the series.

Meh

I love scary books and I wanted to like this one. It was okay. The evil people were evil and the good people were okay. The thing I didn’t like was how they all treated the protagonist. He was a soldier and pretty much everyone he was around hated soldiers. I don’t know if that’s how it is In England but it’s a wonder how anyone their would serve their country with that kind of hate toward their own military. I also am by no means a delicate flower concerning language ( I work in a factory) but the cursing was ridiculous. It was over the top. I probably would have liked it more had every other word not been a swear word. Just saying. I found myself at the end wishing it would end.
